I mean off road the open diff doesn't let it have much fun and in the setting with auto lsd it doesn't let it slide out either. Wondered if this mod would allow for donuts in dirt/mud

 

When the locker any time mod is engaged the nannies are turned off.

What this mod does is fool the truck into thinking its in 4 Lo and that lets you engage the locker. It's been 9 years since I researched my post, so my recollection is a bit fuzzy. But, I kind of remember not going down the fooling the truck road because it didn't feel right. I'm not a person that says because I did something it is the best way. (actually it makes me happy when someone shows me a better way to do things) If someone wanted to go for the fooling mod I'd love to see the outcome. It is certainly a simpler, non permanent mod.

If you do go down the fooling mod path here is a link to the best wiring diagram I've seen. I'd want to understand what's going on before I started poking wires into the truck.

So I have been rocking this mod for 7-8ish years now with no problems…. Until today. looks like my rear locker, both traction control and abs lights are on.
I haven’t checked codes yet, but will do once I get a good code reader.

im wondering if the “diod” mod add on, is something that could fix my issue.

4lo,4hi and 2 Hi are all working. But I noticed that the rear locker don’t seem to engage since the “rear locker” light is illuminated.
. I’m curious if this was the reason for the diod on the write up.

The diode keep stray currents from damaging the electronics, but can't do anything if the damage is already done.

 

Do you know what the damages are? trying to figure out why these lights are on. im hopping its not to late.

 

My first guess would be that the locker is either engaged or thinks it is. If you've got a autoparts store like Autozone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly, etc they will loan you a scan tool.

 

What year is your truck? 2nd gen Tacos have zero OBD-II diagnostics for the 4WD system.

I'm not sure whether 3rd gens have OBD-II diagnostics for 4WD.

Attempt #2 went successful! Didnt read instructions properly the first attempt. All wire colors matched for 2015 or. Cant wait to try it out!

I tried this mod yesterday on my 2007 TRD off-road. I used the omrod relay with the diode. The relay clicks and lights up when I push locker button but the light on the dash doesn’t light up and can’t hear the locker try to engage. Everything looks good. Any ideas on what my issue is? Thanks

 

I’m assuming the locker was working before, so the next step is to double check all of the connections. The light lighting and the relay clicking are good signs.

Did some light trails on Sunday and everything worked great. I didn’t think it worked at first as no lights come on until the locker engaged but once you move forward or back a little it locks. It’s great all the aids turn off when the locker is engaged, no longer have to pull the abs fuse to have fun. I also have an extra relay from mouser if anyone wants it. Located in Newport Beach CA

 

I found my issue with the mod. It was in my vampire clip. Once I fixed it, the locker engaged perfectly. Now I have a bigger problem. I can’t get my locker to disengage. I’ve been trying everything. I’ve torn my yard to shit. Been up hill, down hill, forward, backwards, dirt, gravel and pavement. Someone please help me!‍♂️

 

Double checked, triple checked and checked again. Could not get the locker to disengage. Talked to an expert on the phone to double check what I had done. He said everything sounded right to him but he'd have to check it person. I was thinking maybe something was wrong with the actuator and was about to pull it. I decided to wire back like factory. The locker works perfect again while in 4Lo. No hesitation at all. Maybe something went wrong with the relay? Maybe it's the wrong one? Anyway, I'm back to where I started. The good news, nothing is torn up except for my yard.
