Do you have a compete locker with 4.56s or a good 4.56 ring and pinion? My diff parts pile is growing quickly.

    Doing another!

But styling is left up to me

It'll be in 1/4" so it's going to be heavy, and bigger :anonymous:

Ugh I want this so bad over my truck. Unfortunately the guy doesn’t wanna trade. The 3G 4Runners seem so much more appealing than a Tacoma if you can find a manual - perfect wheelbase with coils all around and space for passengers and camping in the back, more secure and watertight, etc. plus they’re made in Japan which is neat. upload_2024-3-13_21-54-20.png

No I just prefer the wagon body style. I figure it can’t be that much different from a Tacoma driving wise.

Feels a lot different than the Tacoma and has a lot more blind spots.

They aren't that hard to find. I was on the hunt for maybe 1 month before I found mine and I saw a lot of listings. Probably more common out here though.

I don't think them being made in Japan makes them any more or less reliable than the 1st gen Tacomas. They have their own unique quirks even with a near identical platform.

Having both I can say the Tacoma has way more guts when you push it. But that's probably the supercharger and 150k less miles talking. The 4runner is way better for u-turns I'll give it that

So why do you say it has a perfect wheelbase? And why do you find the coils to be a good thing? Have you not felt the way they are squirrely over uneven road surfaces? This again goes back to you saying things without experience. Maybe if you said " i like the shorter wheelbase for around town maneuverability and i like the idea that the coil rear suspension would give a smoother ride with its know trade offs" you would start to garner some reasonable conversations here, but you still like to make bold claims with little substance to back it up.

I have a hard time feeling like I can make an honest comparison between the two because my Tacoma is so much more modified compared to the Runner lol. And then there's the huge mileage difference. And the fact that the 4r is a 96 and the Taco is an 04.

The 4r suits my lifestyle better nowadays so it gets driven more, but honestly when I do drive my truck these days I find myself enjoying it a lot more despite the neglected list of shit I need to do to it

They are a few hundred pounds heavier iirc, and the 4Runner 5VZ was rated at 7 hp less than the Taco version, but that’s pretty negligible.
It’s mostly the enclosed cabin that would let me sleep in the back and actually have more than one passenger. I also miss how nimble my old single cab Tacoma was. This extra cab turns like a train, but the extra space makes up for it. 3G 4Runner may be the best of both worlds in that respect.

That's how I feel. The 4runner was hardly lifted where the Tacoma has a lot of extras.
The 4runner definitely was more family than my regular cab Tacoma. Honestly it felt more like my 2nd gen Tacoma.

That is a fair statement, minus the comment about the turning radius, the tacoma is still tight in the grand scheme of things. The ride is goofy in the T4R, just be warned. They arent big as you would think and the rear seats dont fold flat in my experience. But it is a solid choice for an enclosed camp space. Why not sell yours and buy one and see if you like it? it is only money, you can always make more.

Go drive a Nissan Frontier for a day and you will never complain about your Tacoma's turning radius.
