Beating the snot out of an old 1st gen (with ADD) and breaking nothing vs blowing apart the ADD on a slippery rock in the 4th gen. Pretty relevant to me.

I want the new truck, but seeing one fail on a stupid simple trail and having untold numbers of them held for quality issues makes me second guess buying one.

The remaining first gens are survivors that were built right, I'm sure there were plenty of bad first gens when they first came out too.

Exactly why "they don't make em like they used to" is a flawed argument... They make them much much better than they used to.

The fact that the frames turned to powder means I don’t want them to make them like they used to

No doubt modern engineering and manufacturing processes can make a better product these days, that much is evident in something as simple as comparing a modern day taillight's construction and materials to the simplistic ones off my 1996.

My real concern is the unknown of what else there is on these since so many are being held on QC.

Perhaps I should wait until the 2025s, but at the rate Toyota is stalling deliveries it may be 2025 before I see a TRD OR trim on the lot.

My first gen is an absolute pile compared to my turd gen. And the continuous improvement kept going.

The jury is still out on the new Gen and what actually happened.

tfl will hopefully post a worthwhile update. But considering the fact that they didn’t and posted that pointless vid instead makes me think Toyota told them to STFU, or they can kiss their “influencer” early access to content goodbye … so we will likely not know for a while if it’s a true weak spot

So it took ~2weeks turn around for them to get the truck fixed. Gotta wonder how long it would take if one of us normies had the same thing happen and we didn't have millions of views and direct connection to Toyota.

If it takes longer than 30 days … you get a new truck and or your money back. Been there done that

Aren’t all these people with blown tundra engines waiting a hell of a lot longer for an engine rebuild than that?

agreed. doesn’t instill a lot of faith. I’d prefer some transparency over sweeping under the rug.

    Finally!
Remember "the old days" when you would have a body part removed or a bullet extracted and the person in charge would present the item to you as a souvenir? I hope we get to see a picture of that failed sleeve part. As I indicated in another prior post, I want to see one that has not failed but has some normal wear on it.

Yeah, we are likely to see that photo. Not.:) Here's to hoping Toyota is doing some extreme naval gazing right now.

Yeah I was thinking they probably take 29 days and 11 hours to fix it or they just say "tough" and you can wait it out or get the refund I guess and then you are out of a vehicle.

    Yeah.
No, but you can be moving under a certain speed. Sometimes if sitting still it won't engage until you move a little.
