100% the same kind of mess that is up in my dash area. i should pull that this weekend while my friend is over putting his new shackle mounts on.

 

Why not go back to the dealer, who obviously installed it? It is not from the factory!

Though to try and answer your second question above, that behavior also isn't stock or a feature of the 2nd Gen Tacoma. Having Auto-Lock and Unlock is going to be directly related to some form of aftermarket trickery, most likely that little fella you're questioning. While 4Runners of the same year(s) had the Auto-Lock and Unlock (whether based on shifting from Drive to Park or after 10MPH) that is not a factory option for 2G Tacos. Why it started out of nowhere...who knows. Maybe something/a wire got knocked loose OR into place.

 

because somewhere in that purchase paperwork it will say something along the lines of "no additional promises or items implied without written authorization." which means once the tires hit the street they are responsible for nothing after that unless its written in the RO.

 

Yup this is a dealer installed alarm system. @dntnosht This piece is the glass break microphone, usually they have an adjustment knob and button but this one doesn't.

 

I plugged it back in because the auto lock was getting annoying.

 

Because they would tell me to pound sand.

 

As mentioned dealer installed alarm, the dealer would activate it if the original owner purchases it, otherwise the dealer would deactivate it but would still leave everything in there. Usually this is made by Karr. here is a link to the manual, you can turn on /off the auto lock and unlock feature.

Wow, what a terrible dealer! Or terrible salesman? I have purchased three Tacomas and three Corollas over the past 25 years from Toyota Carlsbad... It does matter that they treat you like a customer should be treated!

 

Y’all need to chill out. It looks like there’s just some misunderstanding. The OP purchased the truck new and when questioned by @Kwikvette if the truck was just purchased the OP responded with yes brand new. Likely this truck was purchased back in 2009 which is why going back to the dealer now would result in getting told to pound sand.

 

Piggy-backing off other people's responses makes things confusing so I asked the OP based off his initial post; can't blame him for getting frustrated with everyone in general!

Still stand by my response, he needs to be careful with unplugging and uninstalling it as often times it's tied into the ignition system and can temporarily disable the vehicle.
