It lists a 5K, and it lists a 10k interval
    Reading is fundamental

If anyone ever bothers to read the service interval book, pretty much anything that is remotely truck related, like towing, hauling, using four-wheel-drive, winter driving, falls under heavy use category and should drop down your oil change intervals to 5000 miles. Since I don’t drive that much I usually do it every six months.

Been pushing my luck since 2012. 2012 engine did not fail due to 10K OCI , but HG failed due to the manufacturing/design flaws.

Since I drive a shit ton, was changing the oil in my 1st gen every 6 weeks (3000 miles) now with the 3rd gen, bumping up to every 5000 was a stretch for me, can’t even fathom going to 10K.

That engine in the ‘99 did go to 434K before it failed.

If you tow at least 1 day a week ... more often. If you cannot afford $40 every 5k or 10k miles for oil, (1) cut down on the Starbucks (2) sell the truck and buy a 16k car. If you must argue about 5k or 5132 or 6127 or some other "optimal interval", get a Corolla and let Toyota do all of the maintenance.

Your post is only 75,021 + 1 about oil change intervals.

Tomorrow is Friday. Hold off on silly repeats and "just one more ..." until tomorrow.

I remember way back when, when synthetic oil first came out. Their claims were that you could push oil changes out to 10k miles, and everyone's tongues were wagging about what a great thing this is. Now, everyone is all "yer gonna wreck yer motor".

That said, logic tells me that if you operate in a high temperature or dusty environment, you'd be wise to change your oil more frequently. I'll add this: if you sit in traffic a lot or do a lot of short drives, I'd err towards the shorter interval also, as both of those situations are hard on oil.

That's not out of the question, it's about what I drive until just recently. Years ago, I had a job that required using my own car. My '84 Rabbit had almost 35k on it in the first year.

I had 2 1998 toyotas that were on 7.5k oci on Castrol semi-synthetic. Sold them past 200k with no issues, except replacing the oil pan on one of them due to a worn threads on the drain.

20-25K depending on the year. Parked it for about a year in ‘21-‘22. Put a new engine in it this past summer. Now my wife drives it and barely gets 3000 a year on it.

Changed my shop location, and cut about 5K off my yearly commute, so now only do about 20K. Commute miles are roughly 10K/year, the rest is travel/play.

    It was a huge thing.

Also when Toyota switched it was super confusing, 2015 Venza 2GR had 5000 OCI, synthetic 0W20

2016 Venza was exactly the same 10,000. Only difference was a model year, nothing else.

For me, german cars made sense with longer intervals, because they had huge capacities. 2.5 liters would use 7 liters of oil. Compared to the Rav4 2.5 using 4.4 liters.

Quality of oil matters, but I want larger capacities to warrant longer oil change intervals.

    Not me, I don’t drink.

Dunno, love to drive, never get tired of it. Also one of the those rare birds that finds the 3rd Gen seating position quite comfortable.

I have long legs and short arms it seems. I could barely reach the top of the steering wheel in my standard seating position.

    Glad someone likes it lol.

Synthetic Oil does not break down like conventional fossil oil does, at least that has been my understanding. Keep in mind that one of the functions of the oil in an engine is to remove contaminant, like metal particles, dirt from induction, ect) from the engine where it can be captured by the oil filter. That being said, IMHO, it would be better to change the oil filter more often than the oil. To answer the OP's question though, I have been changing my oil and filter every 5K miles. I don't think there is harm doing 10K interval oil changes, but you certainly won't be doing your vehicle any harm by doing them more frequently. Just spending a few extra $$$, and if that gives you peace of mind, then so be it.
