Somebody stole the wheels off of one of those fancy Camrys with the black roof just down the street from my house.

From the looks of it I think most of the wheels being stolen are TRD Pro wheels. Makes me not want to upgrade my wheels anymore. I have OR wheels.

Just another reason to take karma in to account when buying crap in Craigslist. It’s like the assholes selling tailgates. It’s just good practice to know where someone got something from.

I thought wheel theft was the thing in the 80's and 90's. I was suprised when it happened to my Subaru about 4yrs ago in covered parking beneath my unit (91941 zip)

The perps broke rear quarter window to get in the car and get to wheel locks. The wheels were knock-off BBS CH-R.

It’s kind of like used mountain bikes, I don’t want to buy wheels off of craigslist anymore because there’s a high chance they are stolen where I live.

On topic (crazy for a Friday) anyone have a legit suggestion for locking lugs? Ones you are running? The ones at the shop I was at seemed kinda cheap. This thread has my ass worried now.

After this thread I ordered some gorilla lug locks. I’m not convinced it’ll stop someone but will slow them down a little…I hope.

As they say, a padlock only keeps out the honest.

I've not yet seen a lock lug that can't be defeated by a simple Harbor Freight extractor or a sacrificial socket. All they do is make every rotation a little more annoying.

The dealer put lock lugs on my hatchback. I plan on removing them at the next maintenance.

As for protecting the truck: I installed a big honking flood light with motion sensor, and then whatever can't be garaged gets parked under that. With a camera. That's going to be more effective than extra locks.

If your bedroom is within 50 yards or so of where you park, get a harbor freight driveway monitor. I put a magnet on the back of my sensor and stick it on the side of my truck each night about chest high to help keep cats from setting it off. If anyone is messing around my truck, it’ll set off the buzzer in my bedroom. You can even put them inside your truck- the IR sensor on them doesn’t see through glass but if someone does get into the cab or into the back shell it will activate the remote alarm also.

They make locking lugs with a rotating sleeve to prevent use of extractors/sacrificial sockets. Unfortunately, I have yet to find one for the Mag style lugs our oem wheels use.

just adding, they caught a pair of brothers who were previously caught last year doing the same early this past weekend.
There's a FB post somewhere talking about it. looks like they had a white small cargo van in some of the ads they had on FB/offerup
