Macy decided to venture out of the shop yesterday, she went about 16” and rolled in some sawdust.

Sounds like you had a great day. :)

I can see myself dropping that tiny drill and breaking the point off when I was taking it out of the packaging. :annoyed:

    She’s a cutie.

We expect Abigail to start walking any day now. She’s holding on to furniture and walking around now just hasn’t let go. Olivia is content to crawl the minimum amount required for us to pick her up and carry her lol.

My boss bought some expensive end mills years ago, I had one in a tool holder and dropped it taking it out of the mill and stopped it with my hand. Wound up having to get 4 stitches. Should have watched it fall.

457 b refers to defired comp. My wife had the 457 when she was working but after retirement she rolled it into a traditional IRA because her employer at the time was paying the expense. And the money would have been taxed on withdrawal. You want to look at a Roth IRA.

At the way back job we put stacks of very thin metal sheets through a belt/roller machine to separate them before going to the punch press. The parts were about 9" x 12" and a few thousandths thick - essentially large razor blades. Wearing gloves, you handled the stacks by grabbing the diagonal corners.

The roller machine was about waist level high and as big as a card table, the operator always stood on the same side because the motor & transmission was on the back side. You just dropped the stack on the load end and caught it (by the corners) when it rolled out the opposite side, if you missed, the parts went on the floor.

Well, this young fellow who had no business in the area was chatting up the girl who worked there.

He was standing on the operator side of the roller when she dropped the stack - he realized she wasn't going to make it around the wrong side of the machine in time to catch the stack...

Helpfully, he stuck his un-gloved hand out flat and essentially caught 20 razor blades across his 4 fingers instantly cutting them to the bone.

    -- then
the parts fell on the floor
-- and he went to the hospital. :smack:

Anyone messed with many fiber lasers tables yet? Our 30year old plasma table is getting to where we need a replacement. 3kw would probably do but cutting 1" with 6kw seems tempting

About 10 days before years end '23 management announced we had 3 million in the budget to spend. Had to be billed and delivered before years end though

:facepalm:new partner and I have hopes for a CNC Mill some day, even a basic mill-path or something.

I've had this happen a few times now, if you can anticipate it you can get demo machines from local sellers billed pretty quickly, they usually see it coming too and will bust ass to make a sale. Ellison got our doosan mill to us in a week when they carried them.

“Alex had an accident at work yesterday. They were unloading a piece of equipment and the strap came loose and it fell on his foot. It crushed his big toe on his left foot and cut it all the way through from the front. The bone was also sticking out. The foot dr cleaned out bone fragments and sowed it up. He has 30 stitches in it. He couldn’t get all the bone fragments out but hoping it will be ok. They put him on some antibiotics but if he gets an infection they will have to amputate his toe. What a night”

My mom just sent me that. That’s my brother.
