vF Tuner installation guide & FAQ

Yup. I've reimaged the laptop with various versions of Windows 10 at this point going back to a 2020 release. Each time I only installed the wifi driver and then vfTuner. Same issue each time.

 

if you have legacy dongle, then WiFi driver is the wrong one

 

Not using the wifi driver. I am using the legacy 1.7+ (1.7.3) software and legacy openport (tactrix) device. The device and driver are fine as evidenced by being able to use TeachStream with it. I tried an old T470 laptop this morning in case it was newer laptop hardware being the problem. Same issue. If anyone has a copy from prior to 1.7.3 they can get me I can try that out to see if it's in the app itself or something with the licensing server causing it. I can see where the exe sends a Ready? command to the server and I get back a Ready response, and that is where things crash with an access violation.

 

OV Tune folks got me fixed up. Must have been something on the licensing server side since I didn't have to update anything on my end.

 

I haven’t updated in ages and everything was fine until a minute ago I updated vf through the menu in vf. Now I can’t even get the program to load. I should’ve just left it be…

Anybody know what it means when it says “ list index out of bounds (-1) “ after the program checks license and begins to load in?

 

Haven’t seen that one. Uninstall VF Tuner from your computer, delete all of the installers from the download folder, and any other VF Tuner related stuff you except for your tunes of course, and re download it from VF Tuner web site. Make sure you’re downloading the drivers for your dongle as well. If you have legacy dongle, download VF 1.7, or WiFi dongle download VF 2.0

 

I think the issue is that vf is the older version. When I hover over the application it states version 1.6 something.

I had already had begun the process you described haha but I’ll see if redownloading did the trick when I get home and come back with the news.

 

yep. delete and re-install 1.7+ legacy version (dongle) version and remember associated apps. should work after that.

Does anybody have steps for setting up gear lock? I've vftuner installed with the tune packs and flashed to the ecu but am lost when it comes to setting up gear lock.

I do not have GL info. It might buried in one of the other vF threads in this section.

That would be great. I’ve messed around with it quite a bit but I have to be missing it.

 

It went away. I opened every Tacoma file and tried it, and it’s gone. I opened Tundra files and it’s there. Maybe it could be part of the update, I don’t know.

 

Went to use my tuner today and it all of a sudden says device not registered?

 

Uninstall the existing software, download the latest version from the website, plug in your cable, and install the new version.

Also for whatever reason, the LV Resets no longer seem to work over that bunch of versions. Asked and re-asked to get them fixed.
