I worked for uncle warren for over 4 years. You can't buy several companies for pocket change coming out of the depression and sit on them for 70 years anymore.

I worked for a division of a business group owned by a holding corp owned by BRK

I was making $170k a year and I had 7 bosses between me and buffett. The amount of money that flows incestuously through that empire is hard to comprehend

In all honesty, it was ok working there. I was a territory manager for my company in charge of the west coast. I had essentially an unlimited expense account. My travel points paid for a lot of my vacations. I finally left because I was tired of filling out forms to change the toilet paper in the office bathroom. I'm back to a sub $20m company and I've never been happier.

I respect Mr. Buffet. He walks the walk in terms of being frugal and non extravagant to this day. Yes, he may have had a leg up in post war America but he's not squandered his wealth. Seems like a humble, down to earth likable fella. Did you ever meet him in person?

No, I never met him. I never met anybody higher than the president of the holding corp that owned my company. Billionaires being humble is all propaganda. There's a lot, and I mean a lot of shit that goes on those big orgs to tax harvest, keep money within the organization, and "influence" elected officials to help the company grow. I flew on corporate jets several times to box seats at major sports events. And that wasn't even with BRK

One positive of that corporate nonsense is I can put BRK, sales, territory manager on my resume and I will never have trouble finding a job. It's a willy wonka golden ticket if you have BRK and sales in your background.

I agree with the generalization of Billionaires in general, but I never really seen Warren fly into space in a phallic space ship or acquire and ruin a social media platform, amongst other things. As far as I know Warren has stayed close to his humble roots. I don't think he even has security outside his house. I could be wrong. We have Jimmy Pattison locally who is similar in humble thriftiness.

In 2008 when the housing market shit the bed, the Fed and the .gov called uncle warren to inject billions of private equity into the system until the .gov could get its shit in order. When the gov has to lean on a geriatric to keep business as usual in "unprecedented times" that's not a good thing.

Yes, I remember that well. CDO's ruled the day. Touch and go there for a while. Almost brought the world financial markets to their knees. Didn't realize Warren was on call in the early stages of the game.

I wish I had started earlier. I mean most people would say 30 is still young and prime time to invest that way, but it feels like I missed a lot of time in the market. What age did you start investing like that?

    25.

That was 2009. I was lucky enough to begin getting in very close to the GFC bottom.

    20. FTE at 22 but also married at 23 and bought our house at 24, refid in 2021 to 2.6%

95% of our success has been luck. Some skill, mostly lucky. Anyone who says they were skilled in getting to where they are is lying, and not giving credit to those who helped them along the way (see the Arnold self made man graduation speech).

I also have to laugh at buffet giving financial advice to the masses about not trying to be quick meanwhile he got rich quick.... Do as i say not as i do sort of thing :)

I feel this in my bones.

I'm regularly presented with something in the vein of "Hey you know stocks, what will get me 10k by next month?" or "No I don't use my 401k because they lock your own money away from you until you're 60!"

    Read, people. Get informed!

When i lwas at my last job i really got to know Microsoft access. It's a fine program, does the trick, but a lot of stuff is kinda wonky. I really got to understand databases and how they work and whatnot. I'm far from a professional but i can certainly do some things.

My current position "no i don't know what access is. Like signing into your windows account? I can help you with that maybe" :cookiemonster:

Same with stonks. I only helped my friend understand credit cards/limits/cycles because that can get expensive and isn't super straight forward. But otherwise i just BS stinks with y'all and the degenerate chat. I don't talk stonks at work :p

What can I do with $1000 today?

I always say "Is it money you'll never need in an emergency? Put it in a Roth..If you find yourself continually looking for what to do with an extra $1000, up your 401k"
