Water spots on hood!! NO THEY AREN'T

Wondering if anyone has run into this and what they did.
I bought my truck about 3 weeks ago. Silver. Friday I washed it, sun was out. Get almost done and WTF is that, water spots.
Get some quick detailer out and no luck. Get the wax out, no luck. Get the polishing compound out and tried it, no luck there either.
The more I looked at it, the marks/stains are from the damn protective film that is on the hoods when shipped. The hood is the only place the stains are. Anyone seen this before?
I will be stopping by the dealer Saturday to see what they say.

 

I've heard of various stains in hood paint before. Dealer should take care of it.

After I had my truck about a month, I installed flouresant lights in my garage and noticed a stain on my hood. Took it to a detail shop that said the hood needed to be painted, a body shop said the same. Took it back to the dealer , they sent me to their body shop and they said the hood needed to be painted. Fortunately a Toyota Rep was at the dearleship and wanted to try to remove the stain with a heat gun. It took about 2 1/2 hours, he removed the stain. It was from the wrap guard.

 

I had something very similar on my 08, but not as bad. I took care of it with some Turtlewax Liquid polishing compound and a Mothers Powerball in my battery drill.

 

I had the exact same thing with my truck when purchased...tried all kinds of stuff to remove it. 3 years later I used a clay bar for the first time...problem solved!

 

Without pics, it's tough to guess what the issue may be... Given that your rig is silver (transparent, and can get "modelly"), you're succeptable to staining, and primer show-through's more than some of the darker colours would be.

I'd take it to a body shop, and see what they think... I've seen brand new cars come into my shop where there was a repair done to a panel (damaged during shipping) and the primer was showing through the paint.

 

Stopped by the Dealer today. They talked to the District Rep and what JDeLuca said, it is from air trapped under the plastic. They use a heat gun somehow and the stains vanish. I was glad to hear that, wasnt to happy about the thought of repainting. Thanks for the replies.

 

Well, just like they said. Heat gun and about 1 1/2 hours and all gone.

Oswego, yeah, rail dust sucks. Used to work at a chrysler dealership which was close to railroad tracks. Many of our personal cars would get that crap on there and most of time if let go it embeds itself into the paint like a damn tick in your neck.

 

was the stain rust colored?

 

Ah, no. Looks like the picture that JDeLuca posted above. Has a milky look to it.
