I need to vent I closed my facebook this morning. I have been on there for at least a few years now and have had it. Recently my wife was hospitalized due to a bleeding ulcer. We both posted on facebook starting with me saying I hope she is ok and gets out soon. What followed that is the problem many of her classmates at her school she is in a full time nursing program responded right away with. Oh the teacher was talking about you and asking where you were and said if your going to miss a week you need to withdrawl from school asap. I was furious over this and although it is not facebooks fault of course I felt I needed to take some kind of action I dont really think anyone will care that I am not using it that is not the point I am trying to make. I just dont like it anymore anyway a couple people from my past our constantly trying to friend me and I say no so this way there is no way of them getting back in my life.I am curious to know if anyone else has any input to this I know a few people that have gone through some things. Sorry about the grammer I know its sloppy.

facebook sucks, it'll be phased out within a couple years with a "better" web-site. you know it's not what makes the world go round. i have facebook, but rarely post on it for the very reason you ran into. people talk, and some people live by that crap site so they can gossip to people that have no business talking about it. either way, we all need to remember that the internet is public knowledge to any and everyone. if you don't want your mother seeing it then don't put it out there. i'm sorry about your wife, i hope she makes a quick and sound recovery. don't worry about not having facebook, there's better ways of keeping in touch with the people you actually care about in your life. write letters, make phone calls, and contact them in ways that prove they matter. it's better that way anyways.

I went through that as well and it was no fun.

Another angle that I experienced was when Dad died 4 months ago. My Dad had a FB account that my Mom had created for him a couple years back. When he became I'll and was close to the end, a few people made same odd comments about his situation. I don't think they meant anything bad, but the comments came across as rather insensitive. It sure created more grief for my Mom than she needed at the time.

I think FB is about 10% useful and 90% a pain in the ass.

I generally delete the people that post drama or block the ones I don't want to talk to or hang out with from my fb. I use it to keep in touch with the people I went to school with.

I hope your wife is ok and that she has a speedy recovery.

I find it amusing in that some on there have no lives what so ever. You know, when they post some crap that you dont know what in the hell they are talking about, but they act as if everyone knows whats going on. I have one friend from school that is apparently divorced and has a teen boy and is unemployed. She is CONSTANTLY on there all the time and watches all the reality shows and comments on them as I know what it means. I hardly ever read her posts anymore. Aside from that I like it since I see whats going on with and get to see pics from family across the country that I normally dont get to see. Also kinda funny to see the stupid things some of the misfit family members post.

I have one, but only use it for getting in touch with old friends and coworkers who I use to work with. I don't post my daily life on it like most people do,ex. going to such and such place, etc. etc. People don't need to know about my daily life, that is my business.
