I used an m8 through bolt for now. I ordered one on Amazon so hopefully that works. If it doesn’t, I have no idea. Drill it out and use an m10 through bolt with backing bolt?

You should be able to chase/clean up the threads with the tap.

That noise is still there, albeit with less thumping from the CV. Which is tight now, not leaking.
It's a low level whump, whump, whump. And today coming back from a donut run, there were a couple added noises of metal on metal clang. :notsure:
Last summer the carrier bearing was replaced, all u-joints are tight and greased, no play in the rear end pinion...

Oh man, I'm sorry! You've got me scared. I'll soon be installing some RCI's. Did you make a mistake I could learn from, or was it just horrible luck? The video instructions for installing the BakFlip tonneau cover advised using a hand tool to loosen the bolts that needed to be removed, rather than a power tool, because the sudden torque might strip threads. Is that what happened to you?

I watched this video, it helped knowing what to move.

As far as my special circumstance. I damaged the threads taking the old bolt out. May it was seized in there? Maybe it was removed once and hamfisted in? It didn’t come out smoothly and as you can see the threads are rounded.

It may have come out better if I soaked it with penetrant or something. Unknown. I suppose you could have the weird tap size ready (m10x1.25) but you can borrow mine if shit goes sideways.

Thanks for that! They're ready for me to pick up, so I'll probably have at it this weekend. And I'll definitely try some penetrating oil first....

There was also a couple other slider videos/posts where this bolt broke and had to be drilled out. I suppose be prepared for revision surgery.

I called RSG this morning to see about getting some of the missing hardware pieces. I called RSG Offroad, which was incorrect, but the person gave me the number for RSG Metalworks.

I called the other place and asked about getting four of the pieces that are made of a nut welded to a 2x2 square piece of metal. He said they don’t sell individual pieces, only complete hardware kits for $60. So, I’ll be getting some flat stock, cutting it into pieces, drilling holes and then painting with Rustoleum.

I’m not complaining, just was surprised.

Seems consistent with most places I’ve inquired about small parts, including Toyota 3rd gen TRD skid plate hardware - “buy a full parts kit” because it’s usually not worth their time to dig around a drawer to send one $2 bolt in the mail.

He said their hardware is prepackaged by a vendor so it makes sense.

Made more, but paying less income tax than last year. Weird.

    Revision surgery complete.

Chases the threads and new bolt went it smoothly. Still haven’t put the other side on because I only have so much patience/time mid-week.

Still not thrilled with how close the brake lines are to a couple of the bolts. Flipped some around to get a little more clearance. May switch to a button head cap screw if I can find one in the right size.

One of the bolts in the middle of the slider on the driver’s side has the nut very close to a brake line. I positioned the nut as best as possible so it is parallel with the brake line but I’m not crazy about it. I may source one of the plastic line clips used and secure the lines just a little bit further away.
