I have 2023 OR auto trans, 2wd, bought new, currently with 6000 miles on it. Tried to back out of my garage and before I could completely get out the truck slammed to a stop. I thought I had hit something. Got out and checked my surroundings and nothing was around. Got back in the truck and it would not back up. It will go forward though. So, I pulled back into the garage. If I put it in reverse and pump the brakes, it will creep backwards a couple inches at a time. I have pulled up and released the parking brake multiple times, but it had no effect on the issue. I have pressed the accelerator harder, but the truck still won't budge in reverse. I live in Alabama and the temp is 64 degrees so it's not a freezing temp issue. Any ideas?

Did you park it overnight after a hard rain or wash? The shoes are semi metallic and they have a way of seizing to the drums if left like that for a few hours. If you pull up the parking brake.

Happened to me, rainy day to a overnight freeze!! Pump them really hard, and go back and fourth, give it time to go from Drive to Reverse!! See if that helps!! What he said above with the handbrake!!

I did just get through washing it about an hour before, I never really use the parking brake unless I'm on an incline. So, no parking brake was not used. This is not the first time to wash it and I don't use a high pressure just regular garden hose. Has never given a hint of this before.

Get a big hammer and hit the drum backer plate. Hard to get a good swing on it but that did it for me.
I had this happen 2-3 times when the truck was fairly new, and not again since. Can’t explain it.

Rust isn't your issue. Water isn't either.
Something is locked up in the drum.

The bad part is, a tow driver is going to pull it on the truck wheels locked up and all.
It won't hurt it, but it makes me cringe to see it.

    Anyways......I feel for you buddy.
Unless you want to pull the rear wheels off and take a look?

Just don't hit it too hard.
If you bend the backing plate, it will hit the drum and squeal until you wear the plate down.
Not ideal, but you do what you have to do.

Tried the hammer thing, afraid if I hit it any harder, I'll dent something and then the dealer will say it's my fault.

You'd be better off taking the wheel off and hitting the face of the drum.
However, I'd be making a decision whether "you" want to fix it.
    Or the dealership.

What ever you do. Don't make the problem worse.
You'll get the blame and be out of pocket.

I go with calling the dealership, getting them to tow it, and asking for a rental car.
Unless you just have to have the truck NOW. in which case, get to "fixing".......

Presently working from home so that's a good thing. Guess I'll be calling the dealer first thing in the morning.

Yeah, that seems weird to me also, but you can clearly tell by the way it feels that it is the rear brakes and I think just one side.

Just went and tried again and it will back up about one foot at a time now while pumping the brakes. But now my dash has a red flashing message that says, "Low Brake Power", "Find A Safe Place To Stop", "Check Owners Manual". My touch screen has a "Brake System Malfunction" message, "Contact Dealer." So, I guess that settles it, thanks for everyone's quick response to help though, it is appreciated.

New with 6000 miles? How does that work? New to you, or they convinced you 6000 miles on a '23 is still a "new" truck?

I'd just tow it to the dealer. It should be a free fix considering you have done nothing wrong.

Also confusing is that he lists this -

    “2007 Silver TRD Offroad”

in his profile block. So is it a 2023 or a 2007?
