Hey guys first post here. I was hoping I could pick some brains. I have an 05 Tacoma v6. Head gasket went out, I had a motor laying around that was plug in play. Did the swap instead of the head gasket. Started up just fine. However I have no throttle response. I’ve checked all my grounds and have found no issue. I have these codes p 2135, po113, po121, po123, po340 po345 po453, po606. I know this is a lot. I’m not going to say I’m a mechanic, however I can replace things when needed. I’m more than capable of doing a motor swap typically. I just can’t locate the problem. I have replaced the cam sensors. Vvt sensor. Pedal assembly. Ecu. I pulled the throttle sensor off of my original motor so I know that works. I called a Toyota dealership and they told me they don’t flash ecu’s for an 05. The motor I put in had 100k miles, it ran great when I pulled it for a spare. I’m a rookie when it comes to wiring, so I’m hoping you may be able to help me.

You've got an interesting collection of codes; throttle-related; cam/vvt, evap (who cares at this point), but the one that has me puzzling is the PO606, which is an ECU fault. I don't have access to the diagrams for your truck, but I would be curious to see if all these circuits share a common ground, or go through a common connector. The other thought is pinched/frayed wires shorting to ground.

I pulled the motor back out and checked the wiring harness. I found one wire exposed which I fixed. But still didn’t change anything. The po606 isn’t always on. I’ve been messing with the truck for a couple weeks now. It starts right up and idles great.

Original harness or did you use the harness with the new engine?

Hmmm... I wonder if there's a difference between the two, even if it's the same engine, maybe there was a slight change during the year? Also, when you tossed all those parts at it, did you verify the parts were bad, or just fire the parts cannon based on codes?

I fired the parts cannon. The truck is at my buddy place a couple hours from me. So I go over there every other week to try and figure it out.

I would suggest getting hold of the service data, and start at "one end" and verify power, ground and signal to/from each sensor. I would also look for an area of commonality (ground, connector) etc, as that feels like the most likely culprit.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between a manual ECU and an automatic ECU? In case that's an issue here.

Is there a difference in part number for the throttle position sensor for your '05 and the year of engine you swapped in? Maybe the ECU just isn't 'seeing' it.
    I'm completely spit-balling here.

I’ve got the same problem (no throttle) after replacing my battery. Any suggestions why throttle is inop?

You jumped in a thread dead for 3 years, based on an engine swap, not a battery swap.

Recommend you start your own thread to get more momentum.
