What could this be? Is this a possible expensive repair? Is this an easy fix that I can do myself? I do not get the warning when truck is in 4H.

When you shifted into 4lo were you completely stopped?
Did you shift back to 2hi and turn the truck off to try again?

Go to an Automotive Store like O'Rieley, Napa, AutoZone, PepBoys, Etc. Get them to pull a code.
Light just tells you the fault lies in your 4x4 system. Code will tell you what it is.

What are you doing when this happens? Are you shifted into neutral when going from 4H to 4L? That may be your issue if not. You can't make the switch if you're in D or R and I don't believe you can make the switch if you're in P either.

When sitting in the drivers seat, look up and follow the instructions printed on the card.

Do you have an automatic? Are you following the shifting procedure? 4Lo will not engage unless you do the following. The beeping is telling you you are not in 4Lo.

    Stop>shif to N>Tur know 4Hi to 4Lo

I had this happen yesterday. One thing I didn't do upon first attempt was 'push' the dial and turn it.

I took it all the way back to 4hi and then tried again and it worked.... perhaps I should 'exercise' all of this more often.

User error most likely. Need to be in 4hi and stopped/in neutral to shift into 4Lo

The truck was off and in parked. I turned on the truck, did not get the beep. I put the truck to D then accelerated. After that I got the nonstop beeps and 4Lo indicator lights flashing. 4Hi is working just fine.

Shifter was in Parked. I turned the ignition on and put the dial to 4Lo, then I put the shifter to D. Press the pedal then I got the 4Lo flashing and continuous beeps

You need to go one step at a time. Come out of Park and into drive, then get 4H going. Once you're successfully in 4H, stop the truck and go to N, then move to 4L.

I was completely stopped. I tried the 4Hi and it worked just fine. I tried switching it back to 4Lo a couple more times while stopped and back in the same situation

You MUST be in NEUTRAL to shift into 4Lo. The problem is that you were in Park. You cannot do it that way. Shift to 4Hi. Stop. DO NOT PUT IN PARK. Put it in neutral. Then put into 4Lo. Reverse the process to get out of 4Lo. This is the only way it will work.

Thanks. I was able to get the 4Lo to work. I have not used the 4Lo and have been switching between 2WD and 4Hi for a long time since I never took my truck off-road

In addition to the manual recommended 4WD monthly mileage, I also switch to 4L and engage the locker a few times a month- if only to switch, drive straight forward a few feet, and switch back.

It may not be helping anything, but it’s not hurting to help keep everything working.

ETA: Glad you got it worked out.

Yes and no. It's kinda like missing a stick shift to me. Sure, there a fun driver engagement aspect, but an auto is way more convenient when my knee or hip is acting up, or when I'm bumbling out the door ten minutes late than planned and wishing I didn't have to go to work.
