I recently had cat and sensor stolen off of my 2005 Tacoma Access 2.7L.
How many cats were on this?

Actually, it should be one and it's in the front pipe.

Thank you for the diagram. It does look like there are 2 cats. Is there something that I’m missing?

That picture shows the two cats
They may be sold in one assembly, but there certainly is a primary and secondary cat

I stand corrected. I always thought it was a resonator and cat. But talking to my co worker, it should be 2 in the pipe.

    Thank you.
What the culprit did was also cut the wiring for the sensor. I can see the wire hanging. Can I just splice the new sensor on that?
Also, assuming I can install it (I believe that I can do it), will this also handle the tripped codes?

there should be a connector for the sensor, it's a harsh environment for a splice
codes should clear but may need a scanner to rest, local auto parts store should work for that

Got it. Any recommendations as to which part to get as well as the sensor?

you can splice a new sensor in, that’s how they sell generic sensors, with no plug. It will be fine if you are confident in your soldering

I’d recommend just buying a whole sensor with oem connector tho. Easier, not much more money
You will likely need to reset the codes and then do a number of drive cycles for it to be ok, but yes, should resolve it

Does anyone have any experience with a compatible cat as to how long they last and any problems you may have had with it?

I cannot tell from that diagram above, are there one or two O2 sensors?

There are 2 O2 sensors. One between the motor and first cat, and one after the first cat before the second cat.

I see aftermarket ones in general, only lasting 50k-100k miles. But often they are 1/4 the price of oem, so sometimes it’s worth it. It really is best to get input from someone who has used a specific brand before buying it, so here’s a bump to hope someone who has done it can help you

There are two sensors one just after the exhaust manifold flange before the Cat which is an Air Fuel Ratio Sensor.

Then the O2 Sensor is between the two Cats. Image below shows one for a 2 wheel drive truck and a different one for the 4X4 truck.

Are these the so-called Upstream and Downstream sensors?

Sorry to hear it. ABQ used to be a friendly town. I moved out south of Tijeras about 30 years ago.

Actually it was stolen when I was in Los Angeles. Albuquerque is a great city although it has its issues like any other mid sized city.
