Here's a new spin on things, got this hot-glued and bolted back together.

 

All this electrical banter got me thinking.

I need to figure out how to separate these stabbed in wires from this connector. I can see no type of release.

Anyone know how this works?

These are 18 gauge wires that sense line voltage from the electrical panel. No voltage detected and the generator is directed to kick on.

 

Try pressing in the center crosspiece with small punch or screwdriver

 

I swear I tried that when I was in the field disconnecting the unit!

That was embarassingly easy.
