Hmmm…34* outside now and suppose to get to 64* with sun and light breeze here in the foothills of the Rockies. Another perfect day to work outside on my little acre! Tulips and hyacinths are coming up. Need to trim one last mockorange before it starts budding.
A beautiful day in the neighborhood! Hoping everyone can make this one great!

So is the background check for ammo a California thing or community requirement? $5 a gallon seems high we've been creeping up, it veries 3.15 -3.67 around here. Predictions of $4 do to a shortage ? We have all the oil we need in this state and 1 refinery. Unless the shortage is from the switch to summer blend, the excuse every spring for the increase. I was road tripping last weekend and found gas 3,09 to 3.29 in Minnesota except for this 1 unicorn station 10 miles south of Hibbing MN, (home of Bob Dylan) 2.94 I was shocked because MN has a state law that sets prices on minimum profit margins to prevent larger gas chains from squeezing independents out of business.

Due to a recent law all ammo purchases in California require a background check. If I buy ammo today and have a background check I will have another if I buy more ammo tomorrow. In addition you can only buy ammo from an ffl who is licensed in California. It is unlawful to bring ammo into California from out of state (even though lots of people drive to Nevada and load up on ammo which of course is illegal but thankfully almost impossible to catch or prosecute). You also can’t give ammo to other people although no one pays any attention to that. California rifle and pistol association has filled suit against this and won the first round. 9th circuit put a hold on it so it’s going to the U S Supreme Court.
As far as gas prices California has lots of taxes and xtra fees that jack up the gas costs.
Yes it is a little frustrating living here

You need to do a Texas Road Trip. Gummies for Ammo! :)

If it weren't for family in Sacramento, I'd stay in Texas. I still plan to get out there (someday), but I'm well aware that I should buy the cheapest place possible and plaster the roof with solar panels. Electricity from my Texas coop is 5c kWh, and PGE is up to 45c kWh. Yikes. $200 electric bills (2500 sq ft house, pool) aren't, but at 9x, I am not sure how anyone lives there.

I like my financial planning: "You need $7300 a month, but you will be short by $2300". "Hmm, I'd better be able to survive on $5000 a month. I'm still working, but it's not getting any easier.

Yesterday was nice and sunny. I was enjoying a few vacation days and went for a nice long bike ride. I then went home and rewaxed the bicycle chain (the recumbent uses about three times as long as the bicycle; replace it once a year—about 5,000 miles). New Tires (commuter tire, heavy but more puncture resistant). Minor adjustments and little things. About $300 annually. Panniers for stopping at the store, so I walk right past the chocolate, skip the ice cream, and only buy essentials (probably saves me about $50 per week.

    This year's big fundraising ride:

    So has that helped ?
I don't think any of us escape the ridiculous, we live on a boarder state of MN. We're a constitutional carry state, but also have the opportunity to gain an expanded CCW that's good in 30 states. Without it crossing the boarder without a firearm secured and ammo in a separate location outside of the car/ cabin can result in its loss. A long gun with a pistol grip handle is considered a pistol.

I checked the mail when I got back from spending $2200 at the dentist this afternoon and got fliers for retirement planning and cremation services. There must be some higher meaning to all of this.
