Bestop Supertop Tailgate Bar/Gap

I just installed the Bestop Supertop on my longbed and have one question for other owners... do you have a gap between the tailgate bar and the top of the tailgate or does your bulbseal touch the top of the tailgate?

I have a 1/4" gap all the way across.

Anyone have images of the ends of their bedrails and how the tailgate bar attaches? The instructions were a little lacking in that one department.

my bulb seal does not touch the tail gate you can slide it down on the metal flange it is on so it will touch i think but was afraid it would off.

 

My seal just barley hits the top of the tailgate. The metal crossbar slides onto the bottom of the soft window with the bar facing forward and the bulb seal down if you get what I mean.

Are those the factory spare steelies you have on your rig?

 

Yes they are but off a tundra base model. I have never measured but I think the backspace may be a little different than the taco wheels. They seem to be a little farther out or away from my uca than even my stock trd alloys ???
Edit, I just reread you question and they are not the spare wheels they are off the base model Tundra truck from 3 or 4 years ago. The way to tell the difference is the stockers have round holes all the way around and the spare wheels have all round holes except where the valve stem is, that one is oblong

 

Where did you get them? I would trade my Mojave's in a second for those!

The gap.... it's more like 1/2". Pretty big for the instructions saying the bulb seal should rest on the top of the tailgate.

 

This happened to mine when i first installed the top. Check the spacing on your C clamps that you install in the track to secure the metal rails. I had to move mine down a bit close to the tail gait, but it solved the problem. This created a perfect seal that is snug every time i open and close the tail gate. I hope this helps!!!

not sure if you ever found a solution to your problem, and i know this is an old thread, but i had this same issue when i first installed the tailgate bar. i looked at it for a bit, then i realized i had it in backwards. if you flip it around, the little lip that hooks into the hooks on either side of the tailgate is poorly designed, as it can be easily installed backwards. like i said before this is a very old thread, and if i dont help you to figure out whats wrong, at least i might help future bestop owners. good luck

 

I agree with jack. I fought with the tailgate bar for what seemed like ages. Stupid instructions aren't much help. But after an adult beverage to calm down, I suddenly saw it! haha

 

yea the instruction are little to be desired. Should have come with a CD Video Install instructions

i mean i figured out eventually but i definitely had a few wtf moments

 

there should totally be a bestop sticky somewhere. there are a ton of threads all with different issues in them.
