Tesla doesn’t have dealerships so their profits are a whole different story than everyone else.

They do have them...and they own them. Cut out the middle man. Keep in mind that Tesla is diversified in the products they make/sell. They make a lot of money off selling carbon credits.

Also Toyota did not go balls deep into EV like Ford and GM did. But then again Toyota did sell about 40% more vehicles in 2023 than GM or Ford.

What comparative vehicles are cheaper than their competitors? All I've noticed is that every company sells at the same general price as their competitors for the same type/trim level vehicles. It's like they all get together and say, OK, for all of our mid size mid trim level trucks the price will be between $40-$45k. Once you get that expensive a grand or two either way makes no difference.

In terms of midsize trucks? All of them are cheaper than Toyota with Nissan probably being the best bargain.

The cost to manufacture = materials + labor + overhead (factory mortgage/rent & utilities). Development (R&D) costs are not part of overhead, it is discretionary funding which comes from … profit.
Smart guys go to board and say, if you give us x dollars we will make y profit over z years. If they like the pitch and ROI, the project is funded.
3rd gen buyers paid too much and profit went towards the 4th gen. 4th gen buyers are paying too much to fund 5th gen development.
With Ford in the red, future Rangers/f150s are going to pretty bland.

I can buy Pro4x's all day long for what Nissan.com says a 4x2 SV would cost.

Dealerships aren’t included in Toyota financials.

Of course they are. They need to factor in the distributor and dealership when determining their msrp. Tesla makes the most profit because they don’t have any of that. That’s smart.

But it’s got a V6! And from what I’ve learned here, the more cylinders the better the motor. No arguing either.

Toyota doesn’t own Gulf States Distribution, Tom Friedman does.

Why would Toyota Corp buy vehicles through a distributor if they owned the dealership? That would be silly.

    Toyota dealerships are franchised.

I think what Turd is referring to is the the manufacturer that has a distributor or middle man of any kind between the factory and the consumer, had to take this middle cut in mind when pricing the vehicle and projecting profit.

Testla being mostly direct to consumer can price their cars just like everyone else and make more profit.

    Example
Toyota prices a Camry for 50K sells to distributor or franchise dealer for 45K Toyota makes 45K

Tesla prices Model xyz for 50K sells direct to consumer for 50K. Tesla makes 50K...moreover, Tesla also makes warranty money finance money etc that Toyota does not make (the dealer makes this) Tesla also makes money on parts and repair (Toyota does also but has to cut in the distributor/franchise dealer)

If Toyota wanted to make the same amount of profit on the Camry above they would have to raise the price of the Camry and that could put it out of competition etc.
