Did you just drill the hole for the zerc dead center in the middle where the bushing gap is?

I like that additional zerk idea. Aside from monetary, would there be any advice for or against placing two greaseable bolts in both locations on the shackle? Similarly is there a reason you didn’t place a greaseable bolt on the front fixed end of the leaf pack?

1000lbs with option 1. it handled this decently. not good. just decent ahaha. had the compression on the shocks turned all the way up.

the front loop of the pack is different and does not rotate like the back as far as articulation. Clearance of the bolt is a problem which is why I didn’t do it. The zerc in the shackle works really well and I can see grease come out the side when full.

you may notice the top bolt in the shackle rub the shackle mount a bit because bolt lengths are not exact. You can file it or let it file itself, just spray paint where it scratches the mount…it will be nice and shiny where worn

I bought new shackles and zercs to do this project. Total was like $40

yes, make sure it can articulate fully and not hit the zerc.

Dude…Toyota Tacoma axles aren’t made for this type of constant weight abuse…just fyi. 1000lbs is ok, once in a while, but I highly suggest you get some airbags and cradles for this…best of everything when installed. If you don’t and do this from time to time…your leafs will flatten out and lose a lot of the cushy progressive spring they have = new leafs sooner

I think I’ve hit 1,000lbs maybe 2-3 times since I have had the truck and every time it’s for quick trips…just sharing from experience.

Will do, I have hammer hangers not yet installed and a new set of OEM shackles so I can easily make sure it clears before the install, did you use 1/4-28 zerks? Thanks!

I only have 225lbs of sliders and got a pretty substantial lift on stage 1. Almost 3” if I recall. Granted, my OEM springs had 90k on them.

itl be fine. hell ive had 2000lbs of stone in my 95 many times over the years. truck spend 95% of time unloaded and i dont wana sacrifice any travel or ride quality. if they ever sag il swap the option 2 leaf in. i am swapping to durobump stock length bump stops and hammer hangers tho.

Wow. Does the rear shake or shimmy at all?

Seems dangerous to place that much weight behind the rear wheel.

I’m in the same boat… did the inner tubes and soaked the bastards with fluid film etc…
I know for certain now that it’s the bushings, another project ahead.

the 1st gen still drives better than the 3rd gen ever did. it does almost everything better tbh. i think your underestimating just how much weight some these overland guys put on on their trucks full time and still offroad like it. full armor, skids, sliders, winch, large spare tire alone can be 500lbs. thats before the actual overland setup and all the unnecessary things they bring. im just using my truck which has no extra weight and starts off being a lighter access cab to begin with to bring a load from point a to b. i drove 4 hours on the highway with 1000lbs in bed and it drove wonderful. majority of the time i didn't know there was any extra weight at all. i am running the icon bypass shocks which handle body roll much better than my kings and with this much weight the piston is entertaining the built in bump zone where valving is much stiffer. i do think that is a big factor with how the truck drives.

I’ve just heard from a few Toyota mechanics I know that the rear axles are not ideally made to weight abuse over time. With that being said it’s still a Toyota…so, probably irrelevant

Going to go with option #2 when the time comes for install…after some long thinking I would rather just throw more weight (or have the chance to) and still have it sit how I want then have to go in and basically reinstall the leafs because I ended up adding too much weight.
