We moved a town over in August of 2022. We now live on a private road, at the end of the road with two of our neighbors living on the same road. We live off a town road name Swamp Road, so of course our water table is high and with all the rains the last 8 months the groundwater level is higher than we like but our basement is still dry. We paid for the private road we live on to be extended to our property but in doing so it raised the level of the the existing road and made it so the standing water now actually floods the entrance to my neighbors driveway. The excavation company should have put in a culvert but in their defense, the water level had never been that high previously so it was not thought it was needed. When we moved here we inherited a neighbor across the street who is retired but has his own medium sized excavator and 3 yard dump truck with a plow. He runs his one man excavation company to stave off boredom and fund his "toy" purchases. The excavation neighbor is good friends with our neighbor(who sold the property to us) and we seem to have bought into the good neighbor club. I was leaving my house one day and ran into the excavation neighbor talking to my neighbor about digging a better ditch to help the water to drain. I told both of my neighbors that it was my fault the problem existed as our road work didn't allow for as much drainage as before and that the excavation neighbor was to give me the bill for the work, not my neighbor. The ironic part of the discussion occurred when my neighbor said, "All this talk of digging the ditch and I really don't care if the water is there or not". The next day the work was done and I happened to run into the two neighbors talking again. I stopped to chat with them for a bit and before I left witnessed the neighbor handing a check to the excavation neighbor for the work that was done. The excavation neighbor did some work in the fall that was removing a few large stumps, digging out the overburden and filling a large area with stone dust to extend the front driveway and allow us to move our temporary storage garages to higher ground. Turns out if we had not done this the garages and all that we had stored in them would have been in 8 to 12 inches of water this winter. He originally quoted about $3K to $5K for the work. His bill was for just over $1K.

We also had a bad wind storm in early December. We were out of power for a couple days with a large pine across the beginning of our road. I used a backpack blower to clear the quarter mile long road of wind debris and our excavation neighbor cut up the pine tree, even cutting a 6 foot high branch with a "V" in it to elevate the downed cable line so that we could access the road and our house until the cable company made repairs. Then he moved the tree off the road before I could make it all the way down to him. When the storm was over and the power company and cable company had repaired the lines he returned with his excavator and removed the tree debris. All for no charge.

I think I won the neighbor lottery.

Neat! Right now, we have 22 prototype projects being tested in the field. We typically have between 10-30 going on all the time.

That’s one of the things I like about working here, the prototype stuff. It’s always something different.

Sorry, I meant the drill "mounted" to the boat wouldn't last in the spray. :anonymous:
