I had one amburana cask Nulu and hated it. My buddy really liked it and traded me an ECBP for it. Win, win. I don't know how to describe what it tasted like but I did noy like it at all. Spoiled dairy maybe? A definite funk.

This stuff tastes like a rum based cocktail or a cordial. It is not overly far from a Mai Tai - whether that's a good thing probably depends on how you feel about Mai Tais. I personally like them, but not in my bourbon.

Pleasant and fruity nose. A LOT of fruit. Don't look for your usual bourbon notes.

Sip it and you get punched in the face with raisins, plum, and heavy sweetness. There's not much complexity that I can tell - nothing to ferret out. If you'd told me it was finished rum in a blind I'd believe you 100%.

Finish - eat handful of raisins and wait 3 minutes. That aftertaste? That plus a little ethanol warmth is your finish.

So, it's not bad, it's just not what I go to bourbon for. Finished stuff is such a crapshoot. Master's Keep Voyage is a phenomenal rum finished bourbon. I have a honey cask finished bourbon I like very much. Then Barrell Seagrass, which I'm a huge fan of. Jo Magnus Triple Cask and Cigar Blend I endorse.

Then you have MWND, which I find to be *very* Port, this Rio, High n Wicked Jury which is Madeira finished Dickel, High West's Cabernet finished thing...all middle of the road at best by my gauge.

I'd pass on a bottle, because I think Seagrass does what this is trying to do in a much more balanced, elegant fashion. But that's me.

Supposedly the main flavor in an amburana finish is cinnamon. I don’t know what I tasted but it wasn’t that. Or maybe what I tasted is what it’s like to bite into an entire cinnamon stick.

I agree. MWND screams Port, which I LOVE. My first bottle lasted less than two weeks and I immediately searched out two more. But I generally agree. Finished whisky’s are hit or miss. I don’t generally lean toward them though I have a Barrel bottle open right now that is finished in ice wine barrels that was a gift, it’s not bad.

Yeah I read all that cinnamon roll shit.

Maybe some of the heat is attributable to a cinnamon note, but I don't get the cinnamon spice effect at all. This whole thing is just overrun with purple fruit, front to back, for me.
