Have a couple of questions about this mod.

    1. Going to put the OVtune on my truck, should I wait until I get a KnN drop in filter and mod done before my tune?

    2. Any info about the average again in mpg or HP?

I had the G Tec Fab mod installed before adding the OVTune. The mpg went up some - may be 1 mpg. The stock air box mod does make the truck breath much easier at all operating ranges - well worth it in my opinion. Then I added 4.88 so the mpg went down about 3 mpg. Then I added OVTune and mileage went back up about 1 mpg. No need to get an expensive K&N filter. Stick with a dry OEM filter or equal. DO NOT add a K&N oiled filter - it will clog your MAF sensor and cause codes and other issues. As for HP - depends on which OVTune octane tune you run. I ran the 91, which is suppose to add HP. But HP gains are at high RPM. Not something you see across and rpm ranges. So don't buy the OVTune for HP - it does wonders for overall performance and is worth every penny. For my truck the 1.05 87 Octane performs perfect - makes stock, even with TSB's, seem like shit.

Had a KnN filter on my 2000 Tacoma and never had a problem. Not looking for hp gain just better mpg and drivability. Plan on doing the 93 tune first. Them test the 86 tune with 93 octane. We will see what happens. Waiting on the 04B31 to be sent to me, I have a 2019 TRD pro.

I have the G Tec stock air box mod with a k/n air filter and it works fine.

I did it my truck and it work out great. Great instructions come with it. Took about an hour to install. Paired my with a KnN drop in filter, truck has better pull now. Work even better with the OVTune.

Could you just use pvc pipe and rubber coupling?

I'm sure you could, but keep in mind that your engine is not starved for air and the intake diameter is not a restriction. If you want to throw money at things, you could probably find that putting TRD sticker on your bumper will give you the same HP gain and look a whole lot cooler.

So is this going to suck up water and/or more dirt?

Any real world gains to MPG?

No. It is just a bigger hole in the same spot. I guess it could let in more water and dirt since it could flow in one side and out the other. Imagine if you had a river that was flowing and you took a section that made it wider. Some people seem to have missed science class and think that you will get more water.

I just ordered a Mishimoto silicone induction hose and am thinking I may do this mod. I have not decided if I want the kit (think $85 is a little high for a few fittings) or do my own ghetto mod with pvc fittings. I already have the KDMax tune. Pics to follow...
