It’s surprisingly not difficult, Bob. Go onto one of the car valuation sites and plug in a trade value for a car that hasn’t been in an accident and then do it again with an accident. Take that difference to the insurance company. If you hold fast and not settle without depreciation, you’ll get compensated.

I wouldn't accept cash on the estimate and insist she go through her insurance.
A: Because you can insist the body shop use nothing but Toyota OEM parts.
B: If she pays you cash on the estimate, she'll think she's over and done with it. Well what if when the body shop finds some hidden damage after they start digging into it? Gonna be a PITA coming after her for more $$ after she thinks she's paid you and done with it.

Moot point, she saw the damage and thought $1,500
She's insured, she's not coming off 8K. No one would.

I was an Insurance Agent for 10 years. In these cases when the other party offered to pay the damage themselves it usually meant: 1) No Insurance, 2) Pigs fly at sunset

They are foreign nationals and appear to have plenty of money; that said, I highly doubt they don't have insurance. I'll find out shortly.

My Tacoma was also victimized (by a high school girl). I was inside a restaurant last year and came out to a note on my windshield. The high schooler had backed into my truck and tried to leave but a waitress at the restaurant saw it happen and made her leave a note.

I drive this thing all over North America without so much as a ding, and a high school kid gets me in a parking lot while I’m not even in the truck. I feel your pain OP!

sorry man that sucks. I wouldn't accept cash either for anything over $1000 in damages. I'd still have to get their insurance info to in case they tried to wee-zeal out of paying.

You should find out if your state does diminished value claims as well. To get that you might have to make them go through insurance, unless they'll give you the cash for that as well.

Sorry to hear about your truck man.

What I'd do. Get paid for the BSM and calibration and all the rest. Then just put all that to a real offroad bumper and ditch all that expensive and fragile BSM crap. The BSM + calibration probably covers the majority of a real bumper anyway. Then just fix the rest and consider it an unplanned upgrade.

Just as others have said definitely submit a diminished value claim on top of the fix. Also demand OEM parts not capa certified parts and to be done by a Toyota certified body shop

New Hampshire is the "Life free or die" state, it is highly unlikely they do diminished value claims.

I suspect that number will change her mind, and really it's cheaper for her to take the surcharge by far.

3 (rare but happens), it's really a cheap and simple fix like a taillight or something. Which is nice if possible, means people can still be reasonable.

Darn well should be given your truck is new. I'm dealing with a parking lot hit to mine now and part of me is mad I can't demand OEM despite my truck being a 2010.

I'm thinking the same thing; given her car needs a new driver's side door, mirror, and front fender, plus whatever was bent/broken underneath, I'm guessing the cost of repairing both vehicles (hers is only a few months old), will be well over $12,000, so yeah, they'll probably opt for insurance. I'll find out tomorrow.
