Hankook versus Yokohama

If you are asking me, no... In my reply I gave the list of where I use tires and mud and snow are at the bottom.

The one mud terrain tire model I owned (Cooper STT) rated at the bottom of my list not because it was bad in mud (it was great in mud)... Because it was terrible in sand and very noisy on the highway. Highway and sand are my main uses for the tires. I bought the STTs beacause they looked so great on a truck and I read they had 'sound cancelling technology'! I wonder what they would sound like with out that?!!

I had a set of Toyo AT's on my last Taco. They were amazing in the snow, ice, snow/mud bushwacking roads and on the highway. Very good behaviour. They were 16's so I had to let em go when I got my new Taco (YAY), it has 17's.

Definitely interested in the Hankooks after all of the reading that I am seeing. Are their manners on the tarmac as good as the Toyos in addition to the ability to handle ice/snow and dirt? Will either get these or the Toyo's again.

 

I won't buy Hancook again. Bought a set of 4 tires and they stiffed me $40 on their "rebate offer"...I sent in the rebate application and never got it, even after calling them twice. That's fraudulent advertising in my book. Beware.

 

Excellent in my opinion... I am liking these better than the Toyos so far.

Because someone didn't send you $40, does not make the tire bad... I am sure I paid $40 more than others have when I bought mine... Don't let small stuff like that keep you from enjoying good off roading. The price of a dinner for two... or less?

You're kidding, right? It's not just the 40 bucks, it's the fact they are rip-off artists. If they don't honor their rebates do you really think they give a crap about 'small stuff' like tire warranties, customer service or (fill in the blank)?

It's a tough market, some manufacturers like to cut corners (spelled c-h-e-a-t) and there are plenty of good products out there. Why buy from a questionable company? But, it's your money.

 

If you can't find the Hankooks, have a look at the Cooper Zeon LTZ. Look very much alike.

There was no rebate offered when I bought mine... wouldn't have mattered... I bought them based on what I read here from other users and Taco owners who have them on and told me in person how they worked.

It sounds like the rebate is the reason you picked Hankook and when you didn't get it, you were (rightfully so) mad at the company.

I am just saying that the tire isn't bad, even though the tire company 'cheated' you out of the $40 you were expecting.

Perhaps take it to your local consumer advocate reporter or TV station? Here in San Diego we have the 'Turko Files' on KUSI Channel 9 TV for consumer rip-offs.

Yours is the first complaint I have ever read on Hankook... and it is on the marketing division of the company and not the tire itself. Perhaps it was just a sad exception? Has anyone else here on TW not get a Hankook rebate check that they sent in for?

 

The rebate complaint has already been filed with the NJ BBB but the issue isn't JUST about product quality or a $40 customer hoodwinking, it's about needing to take false advertisers to task when they ignore their promises to customers. If consumers don't call their bluff in situations like this, nobody will.

The same logic is applied here on the forum. For folks selling/buying items there are certain expectations and precautions required to ensure fair practices. Reality says that cheating without consequence creates a competitive advantage, and if buyer responses are to continue buying from sellers that cheat then it's pretty much the same thing as condoning the cheating. THAT would be a pretty sad commentary on who we are.

Your choice and your money, but when it comes to tires I know what company I won't be buying from in the future.

 

Hankooks for sure. I've heard the Geolanders are garbage.

 

The Hankooks look good, but I wanted to go to a P275/70r16 and I don't see that in their charts. The Geolanders are available that way and I've read a couple hundred good reviews on them, so I think I'll go that way.

I had the geolanders on my Tundra before I sold it. They were used when I bought it and I put over 30000 on it and they still had a lot of life left. I never off roaded them but found that they were great in the rain and snow (central Maine). They were also smooth and quiet on the highway.
One of my friends has the Hankook on his GM 2500 and had a bog problem getting them balanced. He had to take it back 3 times. I dont know if it was his wheels or the mechanics, now that they are balance correctly he loves them.
I would say either is a great choice, go with whate ever you prefered tire shop has in stock and for the best price.

 

I put those on my 01 when I needed new tires. Great traction in all conditions, the only downside was that they gripped the grooved concrete on the highway so well that it made the truck sway a lot through the top. Once I got a few months of wear on them the sway went away.

 

Looks like you got a ton of nods for the Hankooks. The Geolander A/TS is a good tire. Had them on my last rig. Great highway tire. Quiet road handling. Works well in snow, black ice, and rainy conditions. Soft compound so they tend to wear out just a bit quicker, although I had over 45,000 mile on mine and still expected to get another 10-15K on them. Price was pretty reasonable through Discount. Also P rated so lighter than the Hankook. If your primary objective is off roading though the Hankook has a deeper and more aggressive tread.
Currently running my rig on BFG A/T KO's and wish I had the Geolanders. That's my story and I'm stickin to it..

 

For the record, Tuck, the Hankooks come in P as well...

 

Ok, my mistake. I will rephrase. The Geolanders are a light weight tire.
