This. Using a helicoil is stronger than the original threading, with the Helicoil, the bolt tension is spread over a slightly larger area of aluminum; the OD of the helicoil. Take care to drill and tap very straight/perpendicular.

 

I had a similar thing happen on my aftermarket head, except with the cam bearing cap hardware. Was tightening one down and the bolt kept stretched and almost snapped before I pulled it out to inspect it.
On my most recent valve job, the threads in the head for some of the cam bearing caps started to let go. Something about aftermarket/remanufactured heads and the metal they're using in the castings.....

 

If you haven't done a helicoil on Aluminum a few times in your life you aren't doing it right.

 

When I was working as a machinist we'd make these huge aluminum drive hubs for a bakery machine and put helicoils in right from the start because they're stronger than just running the bolt into the base material.

 

I do inserts too on my designs that see repeat threading. I can only get away without inserts if we do a hard anodize and some course threads.

Supercharger whine is okay... But turbos even at their worst never sound like a bad power steering pump

 

The power steering on the 91 F150 I had

 

Glad I decided to check valve lash. Had 4 out of spec. Any advantage to leaning towards one side or the other of the factory spec with the turbo? Guessing it won't make much of a difference.

 

Good question

 

Tight side will give you more run time before needing adjustment. A thou heavy on the tightest tolerance, will give close to maximum lift, plus a little extra expansion room. Since you aren't running a pure race engine, you'll be good.

"Maximum" is relative to the tolerance of gap.

Maximum allowed lift. Which in turn leads to a tad more flow.
Get them all as close to possible, and you'll have more even performance between cylinders.
