    Hey guys. I hope I could get some help. I have a 2006 prerunner 2wd 4.0 liter Tacoma. Today I did a transmission fluid change and put a new transmission filter on. I filled it up and started it to put it into atf temp mode. I went to put it in neutral from park and the shifter won’t come out of park. I checked the fuses, the brake switch and just about everything I’ve read and scanned it with my obd2 scanner and nothing. It has to be related to me doing a new filter and transmission fluid change. I hope I could get some help thank you

    Do the brake lights come on when you step on the brake pedal?

    Can you shift it if you press the shift lock over ride button in?

    Shift linkage is blocked, check the cable to the linkage on the side of the transmission.

    You may have blocked it by accident by hanging a tool or flash light?

    Otherwise you'll need to remove pan and inspect your work.

    Did the shift lock button press in?
    If so, something is “Stuck”.

    I think I remember a detent or lock being down at the pan area.
    let me look

    I removed my transmission pan to double check my work and inspected the shift linkage on the outside and inside the pan where it connects and it looks good, and the shift lock button goes down all the way

    I left it in the position that is in the picture because I’m assuming that would be park?

    When you had the pan off, you moved that piece?
    Maybe you knocked it off while installing the pan?

    The only thing I know to do is, disconnect the shift cable at the transmission and try to manual move the linkage. If it won’t move, you are going to have to pull the pan back off.

    E-brake ON. If you move that rod, the truck is free to roll.
    Don’t run over yourself.

    When I took the pan off a second time I was moving it just slightly to see if it would move a little and it did, I wish I could upload videos here lol because I have a video of it but I’ll have to see about removing the linkage tomorrow and moving it from the outside of the pan
