It’s not an aggressive off-road truck to begin with. It’s a basic midsize soccer mom truck.

Made much worse by painted flares. It's all good, if the SUV look is your thing, have at it.

I guess I took a wrong turn on the way to the soccer field.

When I'm out on the road and I briefly see a tacoma with painted fender flairs, I automatically just think it's an SR or SR5 and stop checking it out. The Pro and TrailHunter even have black fender flairs, it's how Toyota signifies to people "This is one of our off road trucks".

And my truck has so much black accenting that I couldn't imagine the fender flairs not being black. It would be even uglier.

I wish I had the balls to cut half the front end off my truck and install a large bumper/winch. I need a second Tacoma, I have room for one :blahblah:

It can be a more difficult time for us off-road limo guys on the rocks though.
I don't often miss my JKRU, but I tend to on non bypass obstacles.

YUP! The black accents break up the sea of large panels. I was heavily considering a TRD Pro 4Runner in Solar Octane but went with the Taco because of 3 things.
    1. Tacoma is a little less expensive.
    2. I very much prefer having a bed vs a cargo area.
    3. The 4Runner was so bland with it's flares matching.

Not just that, but if you ever actually take it off road those painted flares quickly start showing all the scrapes and how they are black under that paint anyway.[/QUOTE]

Bro, You’re scared of getting scrapes on your truck. It’s a truck for Gods sake. trade in your taco asap. There is a man somewhere that can use it. Get yourself a Prius.

Keeping it nice, and liking mods/options that make keeping it nice a bit easier doesn't mean you don't use it like a truck. Some just take care of their stuff instead of beating up and using the "it's a truck" excuse for being neglectful or lazy.

For the record, I'm one of the lazy ones, but I don't try to excuse it just because I have a penis. I just accept that my priorities aren't in having a pristine truck all the time. I certainly don't think less of those that keep theirs waxed and pretty.

On 2nd gens there is no cutting involved.
I like the idea of having another Taco.

Black flares remind me of a cute Ute pretending to be an off-road vehicle. Black plastic makes things tough. Toyota should put those plastic panels on the Tacoma doors too so they can be really tough off-roaders. :D

When optioned the same the sport and off road are the exact same price.

I had a Sport, then switched to an Off Road. Just using the truck for plowing, mud boggin, extracting neighbors…I did want the OR features. The blackout flares are preferable in my environment and I think they look spicy against the super white. I’ve used the locker a couple three times and it served its purpose. Sixteen inch wheels are quite a bit more preferable for many reasons……mud ruts, frozen mud ruts, plus I like to hit stuff. When I had my ‘13, I lived in the concrete jungle, Sport made sense. Moved to the woods, got an Off Road. The tires on the off road are more ATish than the racing slicks that came on my Sport, but they still sucked.

There, my decision has been thoroughly justified. I feel so much better…

I found a Solar Octane Sport. Anyone who says that painted flares look better than black flares are only saying that because their shit is painted.
