    that thing is beat up. might as well get a 3rd gen. with repo's at an all time high i'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent one in this market.

    The at fault driver's insurance will cover them under liability. Regarding your own insurance, bike would not be covered by auto, but would be covered by home. Bike rack is likely not covered by auto, would depend on policy language and whether or not it is considered an aftermarket accessory. Some policies specify that any accessory has to be permanently mounted in order to be covered.
