    I was waiting for someone to pick up on that. I lost the remote in all the plastic and drop cloths. Had to listen to NBC for a good part of the day.

    I would have either dug up all the plastic or manually turned off the TV before subjecting myself to that :rofl:

    I am bamboozled.

    our house has an ancient intercom system, which I’m tearing portions out as I redo spaces. This was in the hallway I just pulled the paneling out of. The red/white wires were giving me a hot beep. So I went to the breaker panel and turned off EVERY breaker, but they stayed hot. With a multimeter on them I couldn’t get a reading at all.

    so being the safety man I am, I cut them. Didn’t die, so that’s a win.

    I’m still getting a voltage beep on the wires from the attic. Is it just bleed over??

    I hate electrical

    If you pull those red and white low voltage intercom wires way out of the wall and away from everything else you’re still getting a beep? I’d be surprised by that but I’m not an electrician by any means

    Yes! Well I haven’t pulled them out of the hole, but away from the wall yes I get a beep.

    Friend had a major house fire that started from the low voltage doorbell transformer...I'd stay on this issue

    Well that makes me feel good, not! I plan to get in the attic tomorrow and trace it back to who knows where and at least cap it off

    @jjones.yota

    I would just cap them off in a junction box and then cover the junction box with a blank faceplate.

    I had a rental where the previous owner did something similar. He left the bare wires capped off, but no junction box and just put sheetrock over to hide it all. :facepalm:

    I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
    If you touch them together does the transformer work and the thing chimes? You may fry it but it’s obviously not in use. Like @MGMDesertTaco said j box or trace find where it’s fed from

    Same here. When I redid my main bath and removed the one piece tub and shower there was a length of romex behind it...and it was live. Junction box, capped the individual wires, box cover.

    No landline here that I’m aware of..

    my only guess is that maybe it’s hooked into the old security system that’s based in a closet, but I haven’t traced the wires back yet. That security system has one of those giant Duracell battery packs in it I remember that may have some charge, idk..

    Check for small transformer close to or attached to your main electrical panel. Hard wired door bell and old intercom systems need a low voltage transformer for power source.
