    Good morning,
Thank you for supporting the community. I reviewed your website and got a little lost. Can you please help me locate the right harness to run my ss3 backlights while parking lights are on? I hate the lame DRLs on the 2023 model. Do you have a plug and play harness to connect the ss3 backlight power cable to the parking lights or another power source? Right now the DRLs are not the high beams, they are completely dedicated DRLS.

Thank you in advance for the help.
    Regards,
    Thomas

Specify your truck trim level please. TRD or SR/SR5

I assume your ss3’s are in the stock fog light location?

Ah, sorry, you have a 4Runner?

I don’t have anything listed for T4R for SS3 backlight yet. I did do a custom harness for that for @mynameistory and if I can ever get caught up I may try to reproduce that and list as an item.

I’ve been behind on orders for a few months and haven’t ever been able to catch up.

I think I have a parking light T harness for T4R but it’s not PnP for backlight.

Thank you for the quick response. I have a 2023 sr5 premium 4R. Ss3’s are in stock location. Do you think a slight mod to the parking lot t harness that you have will be an easy solution? Happy to get in line and also submit payment. Was also thinking about acquiring your 4R DRL harness if that helps.

what is the easiest solution from your end my friend?

    regards
    Thomas

If you want the ss3 backlight on with parking lights (not DRL and not flashing with turns / against turn flash) then the T w dd backlight makes sense. I’ll add an option to the item. But I could use some help on wire length. The ss3 harness has a few inches for the backlight to the amp connector so it’s from there to the sidemarker that you’d measure for length. My default is 12” but you might want more?

Look over this guy and your headlight and measure lengths and tell me if you think this is a good plan:

    https://fbchs.square.site/product/t...-harness/43?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true

The one I made for Tory was off the triangle connector which serves parking light and turn I believe, then it flashed with turns (against turn flash really) using relays, it was extra ridiculous just for fun. We could use the triangle connector instead of the sidemarker but I am running into the point of having too many sku's and not being able to keep them all straight in my head.

Also please double-check polarity on the sidemarker. I've made the spec for my '05 Tacoma but not sure on the T4R, I only have a headlight and the halogen bulb won't tell me which is + and which is -. Toyota does all grounds as white with black stripe so the green or colored wire to the sidemarker would be the positive lead.

Thank you. T w dd backlight option sounds perfect. Can we do 14-16 to be safe? I would prefer that it not flash with the blinker. I will do some research for the polarity of the side marker tonight. Might have to peal back the casing or the wheel well liner early this week.

how do I go about placing the order to get in the queue?

I’ll update the length spec to 16” and I think I’ll revise it to a pair for $60 since it doesn’t make sense to buy only one.

Sounds great. Can you please share the link and I will place the order? Appreciate your help with this project. I will post on a couple 4 runner forums after delivery and drive some sales for you.

What do you think the estimated ship date will be? No rush. Just want to manage expectations.

Please do confirm polarity for me though, otherwise you'll have to send them back to me to swap if it's different from my '05 Tacoma.

Good morning, I submitted the order for the two harnesses last night. Just wanted to confirm that I would like the ss3 backlights to switch on when the parking lights are initiated on the light column. Definitely don’t want them blinking with the blinker. Feel like that is asking to shorten the life of them.

additionally, thinking through it more this morning, if it’s easier we can run it through the daytime running lights, since I never use them but I am afraid the 2023 Drls are too low in power.

no pressure for either option. I want to leave it open for you since I have zero experience in this matter.

Thank you again for the help and forward to receiving the harnesses soon.

The item I linked is off the parking light circuit only.

DRL’s are series wired in 2022+ unless the T4R DRL harness is used, then they become 12v. There is no problem with power delivery but DRL turns off with low beams and you likely prefer backlight on for that.

    Good morning,

Hope you got a chance to catch up this week. From your last comment, since i always run my drl’s off, would you recommend running the power for the ss3 backlights from the drls vs the parking lights? Is there a way to use the drl power and head unit switch to control the backlight and potentially run the ss3 backlight and side lights at the same time? With this potential option, can remove the drl light bulbs and just use the power and head unit switch to control the backlight? Sorry for the long explanation, I hate the low power of the drls.
Happy to move forward with the original plan, just wanted to share before it was too late.

    have a nice weekend.

    regards,
    Thomas

I got your stuff built yesterday.

add a fuse is the other option. It’s not possible to turn DRL’s off on Canadian models as far as I’m aware. So add a fuse would actually be better than DRL since it wouldn’t turn off with low beams.

The radio doesn’t do anything with either signal other than dim with parking lights on.

The one thing you can do is confirm polarity.

All good. We will run with original plan if it is best. I am in the US. No rules! Feel free to advise and provide the best option.

How do i check on polarity?

Photo of the connector on your sidemarker. Green and white w black stripe. The bulb that comes on with parking lights.

The DRL T4R harness converting series to parallel could also feed grille lights. But you’d want to combine with parking lights. And the only real “benefit” is a dim backlight during the day which I’m told is hard to see. Probably best to start with what you ordered and evaluate, if you really want backlight on with DRL too we can revisit.
