Eibach Protruck 2 Science Experiment

I can't get the coilovers to compress past 20 1/4.

Going to try lowering the adjustment screw 6 turns (1/8 per turn) to match the block (3/8 block, ~6/8 lift) and see if it's easier to compress.

 

Driver's side complete, drove around block to see how it settled

I now essentially have "long travel" coilovers (I think?)

Great news is that I now have ~3" of downtravel. I don't believe that I will bottom out the shocks at this height, you would probably need to drop it down 1 1/2 or more before you start running into the opposite issue, just a guess.

Need to loosen and retorque the LCAs, then I'll check out the passenger side.

Sidenote - suspension is still limited by the coilovers, albeit barely at this point. Also, and max droop, the UCA will nearly skim the coil.

Also.... Aren't long travel coilovers just.... 1/2" longer?

 

I think your mixing up mid or extended travel over a proper LT set up. Proper long travel kits are substantially more involved longer shocks different LCA and UCA.
This experiment truly didn't change anything regarding travel it just added lift.

 

More of a, "changed up/down travel center" since the coilovers are adjustable.

Added 3/8 spacer, lowered coilovers adjustment by 3/8, thus shifting my "center" from "nearly fully extended" more towards "neutral + -"

My terminology is off, my apologies.

Driver and passenger side are complete, just loosen/retorque LCAS then I should be done.

I did some testing.... And the clunk is gone!

It's getting late, but tomorrow I'll hit some terrain at a bit higher speed and see if I can get it to go, however so far, things that would normally clunk.... Do not!

What was the lift before? Looks like you dropped below 2" territory.

 

25.5-22.5=3 (am I missing something?)

I'm right in the money for 3" at the moment. I might lower the front by a 1/4" tho.

Still riding much better than before, when I had sub 3" of downtravel.

I went from 22 3/4 to 22 1/2.

Roughly 1/4 lower up front then I was, however I could just add 2 turns to each coilover for the extra 1/4 lift.

 

I guess you proved Tinker's point -more lift does not equal better suspension

 

That's a known fact I feel.

What I really did was get 22" ride quality with a 22 1/2" lift.

 

All really depends on stroke length and aplication.

 

I am glad I got to be a follower of this experiment as it unfolded.. Apparently many others haven't taken to their garage to try any self help. Good work!

I edited the title of the thread to more accurately represent the content.

I really wanted to see if how they are setup from Eibach was the problem, and if this experiment would be a solution for others, albeit one that costs a bit more money ($30 isn't bad).

With everything all said and done, I'm still likely going to order a tuned set of coilovers form @AccuTune Offroad.

 

I knew I wasn't crazy when I first put on these Eibach Stage 2s. We have a speed bump in my neighborhood and as soon as I put these on, I knew they were topping out and causing the clunk. Your video confirmed exactly what I feel in the front end on the same type of bumps. I'll likely throw on these spacers to correct in the meantime, but like you I'll be upgrading suspension again here soon. Thanks for the testing and write up on here, doing the gods work to fix what Eibach couldn't develop right from the get-go.
