Good evening. My 2010 2.7 recently started throwing P0011. It also started a rough idle. I immediately changed the oil 'looked clean and the level was good' and also ordered and installed a new VVT Solenoid. I then cleared the codes and took it for a.test drive. No rough idle but the code is still being thrown. Any advice on next steps? First time poster so forgive me if I missed any important details.

    Thanks!

I'd start with the OCV filter, then possibly the OCV itself.
After that, you'll need to pull the timing cover and look at the actual timing.
Seeing as the timing is advanced, I doubt it's the chain, or gears. But "maybe".

If it seems to be running again, and the code is still there it may just be that it is going to take a few cycles for the ECM to clear the code. Kinda like it did when I replaced my cat....probably took a full day before the code went away on its on.

Is just the code stored as permanent or did it come back with a CEL?

If it's just stored as permanent it will take a few good drive cycles before it will clear

I cleared once right when I took it for the short test drive.

Permanent codes won't clear with a scan tool, the PCM has to clear them itself. That's why I asked.

There are 3 types of codes on Toyota.

Pending: the fault has ocuured once but hasn't turned on the CEL. Can be cleared with a scan tool.

Current: the fault has occurred enough times in a row to turn on the CEL or the fault is currently present. Can be cleared with a scan tool.

Permanent: The fault has occured and set a CEL but the monitor hasn't run and passed enough consecutive times to clear. Can not be cleared with a scan tool or battery disconnect, the PCM has to run and pass the monitor for the fault 2-3 consecutive drive cycles for the code to clear. Permanent codes will remain until the PCM clears them itself even after the fault is repaired and the codes are cleared.

The cheapest "daily driver" cat that rock auto had....worked like a champ... going strong for over five years now.
