Hey all, looking at doing the ECGS bushing swap on my '11 in the next week or so (basically whenever the bushing gets to my doorstep). Looks like ECGS charges a pretty penny to add on the install and removal tools. After watching some youtube videos i feel pretty confident installing with homemade tools but the removal tool looks pretty handy.

Does anyone in the greater Denver area have the removal tool that I could borrow for a few bucks? (i'd love to borrow the install tool if you have it also) If it comes down to it i'd pay their $45 for the removal tool to save the headaches but wouldn't mind saving a few $$ if I can.

Removal and Install tools linked here: https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html

    Thanks!

This is good to know though, if i had a bit more fab capabilities i'd consider it. the tool does look pretty simple overall...

good choice to pick up the removal tool as it makes it much simpler. I bought the removal tool only when i purchased the bushing and just for kicks i tried removing the needle bearing without the tool using some parts i had laying around.

Just note that like most people here, i had to remove some material on the removal tool (nut part) in order to get it to fit behind the needle bearing.

Bushing install tool was not needed. I used an axle nut ~32mm and a deadblow hammer to press the new bushing in.

I bought the install tool because once the tool bottoms out, the bushing is set correctly. Same for the seal.

The install tool is not needed. It’s only for convenience.

For both the bushing and the seal, take note of where the factory one is and drive the replacement ones in at the same place. You can drive the axle seal in too far and it will leak then.

For the removal tool, you have to center it perfectly or the whole unit will spin and not press out. If its not centered it can also bend the thick steal plate instead of pressing out the old bearing.
