I wanted to see if you have blazing blue pearl (3rd gen) color option. I didn't see it listed but did see someone's pic in that color (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tailgate-anti-theft-device.612331/page-25#post-29211782). If not, what color is that?

 

I do have it, just isn't added yet, it's a brand new color.

I am installing the R4T electronic tailgate locking tailgate kit on my 2021 Taco tonight, to enable me to lock my tailgate with my key fob instead of manually. I have a hard tonneau cover and thought that locking my tailgate would keep folks from stealing what's secured in my truck bed. I've read that thieves can still "punch" these out and steal your stuff AND your tailgate. Is that true? But your piece will at least keep them from taking the tailgate. Correct?

Unfortunately I'm not able to install it yet due to that f*cking screw, but here it is in Magnetic Metallic Gray nonetheless...

Bro. Exact same situation.

- Tried by hand. Not budging.

- Regular Dewalt impact driver just made noise. Tried both ways just to get it moving. Nothing.

- Sprayed some penetrator. Nothing.

- Heating a few days later did nothing.

- Finally hit it with a 1/2 drive impact rated T-40 bit with 330 ft-lbs from my DeWalt impact wrench... that immediately swirled around inside the head like it was butter and I now have a completely stripped circle.

I have never had a bolt so seized that it might as well be welded and I've never stripped anything in my life but here we are.

I will try to drill it out next before I finally just go pay for a professional to remove it at this point. What an insane bolt.

Since my current bolt doesn't have long left on this Earth, do you know what the bolt dimensions are to order a replacement?

I see "T40 Torx M8-1.25" earlier in the thread, but no mm (length) indication.

(EDIT: Also the OEM screw is apparently Tacoma part number 90149-80020 for anyone wondering. Still no mm indication though.)

Oh boy! I tried to be careful and still stripped the head. Then I tried to use an extractor and the bit broke off in the head...

I give up!
