Hahaha, I bumped down but I'm on the fence and I can probably change it before the weekend is over. I'm sure either of my choices are safe enough. I may have heard of someone having head gasket issues from going the max displacement the stroker kit claims to be able to achieve.

 

Hey Russ, what's your boost in colder weather? It seems like mine decreases a bit.

 

Not honestly sure. I don't really pay much attention to it but when I'm really heavy on the gas I think around 12-13. Pre dual exhaust I had about 15-16.

Will have to test, maybe when I take my son to taekwondo tonight.

But I can't really give a good cold vs warm boost value yet.

 

So boost last night was about 11-12 psi. Around 4 degC

 

Fascinating.

About same outside temp here and mine starts at 14ish and drops to 10 - not gradually, it's a sharp change at about 80% throttle. It's always been like that though, even before I put the 1.87"er and the UCon in - would be 6psi and then drop sharply to 4psi at the right amount of throttle.

 

That at steady or increasing RPMs when that drop occurs? Sounds strange.

Maybe a leak at higher boost pressure that is sealed at lower pressure?

 

Increasing RPM yeah, like slowly increasing throttle from 50% to 80% as I accelerate. No noticeable drop in power, if anything it increases.

Yeah, a leak is certainly possible. I was going to do a vacuum leak check asap here in any case.

 

Any way to monitor what your throttle body is doing at that time? Wonder if the Ecu cuts the air to maintain fuel ratio possibly?

Totally just spit balling but it's interesting that no loss of power is felt.

I may have to look at some older logs to see what is happening throttle wise but boost isn't logged on my setup and I never focus too much on that number. Don't think I've observed that behaviour with my boost numbers though.

 

Yeah, good things to check - I'm doing some data logging soon (busy week but hopefully by the weekend) now that I have my fancy tablet mount. I'll take whatever suggestions for things to look for in the data logs.

 

Removed all valves from head and cleaned as best I could until cold weather started freezing my water based solvent. Pretty much ready to go talk to a machinist soon.

Also, the Brian Crower stuff arrived so I'll have to contact the shop I was communicating with to get the block shipped for sleeving in the near future.

 

Just got back from a three week family vacation in Malaysia (where Annie my wifey was born).

In Miri, where we stayed with family, there was a very high amount of trucks with upgraded bumpers, headache racks and lifts and probably 90% of them were Hiluxes, with the rest being Mitsubishis and Nissans, and Ford Ranger Raptors. Beats out Maui even for the sheer amount of cool rides.

Uncle owns a business upgrading trucks for offroad and does tours and leases to government and others. There was a dozen decked out hiluxes and Toyota's in his driveway and many many more stashed on spots around town. He probably has 40+ (only what I saw) and a number of other Toyotas.

So naturally he took us on an offroad tour (about one hour on road and three hours offroad) to get to Mulu national park (huge cave system, largest being roughly 250km mapped) with the last hour being reasonably rugged. Very much like Canadian logging/service roads. Then a half hour long boat ride to the resort. Almost all people fly in but we had our badass uncle giving us a sweet travel experience.

Was a great time. Saw about three millipedes that could kill man dead. A snake popped up three feet in front of me out of the floor of the catwalk I was walking with my son behind me. Turns out it wasn't venomous but I didn't know that until the guide saw it. Also saw a burn your anus tree (the scientific name ended with burnyanus) that if you touched it would make you so itchey you'd scratch through your skin then later get excruciating butt pain apparently. Then saw bats migrating out of the cave for their nightly dinner time.

Dude, that sounds/looks like a badass vacation!

 

It was soooo awesome. This was just a small part of it too.

Was Chinese new years so lots of fireworks on a few evenings and firecrackers going off at all times of the day 8am til midnight.

I know this is an older thread,, hoping for some “In The Moment” feed back and help.

I’ve been wrestling theses “Solids” for 3 days now (wrench, loose my mind, take a break, start over)

my problem, besides all the tight working space fun, has been I can’t get them to Bed In aka sit flat n square on my frame mounts

it seems if I go after on side, then the other side is off

what am I doing wrong??

Are you doing transmission mounts as well? If you haven't I would loosen the transmission mounts a little.

I got one side in then struggled to get the other in. Think I then adjusted the jack very gently up and down and maybe used a thicker solid screwdriver to wiggle in the mount hole and the bushing until I could get everything lined up to get the bolt in.

I also used the power of swearing and that may have given me the extra torque to make it happen hahaha. I know you used the tip as well.

and YES… I have been using the power of “F Bombs” to the point I think even the French would be offended lol

And so many of my frustrations have been literally directed at “Solid’s”… we’ve ALL already survived the dam Taco engineers that make us loose our minds… but you think when some one Re-Engineers something after surviving the factory: well, you’d think they’d make it better of course, but possibly… EASIER

and believe it or not, that was literally my Next move (I’m half way loosed up). I truly thank you for confirming my next “I’ve given Up” hunch

Unfortunately, working on vehicles always involves tight and/or awkward spaces and with the design of the original mounts Solid only has so much they can do to make the mounts easier to deal with.

I found the original mounts were big and boxy and much more awkward to get a wrench or socket or nuts and bolts in then the Solid mounts.

It'll be sooooo worth it once they're in!

 

Absolutely, other than an air filter, it’s called WRENCHING lol

I’m still under the Taco… but just wanted to Share that releasing the Tranny mount SAVED the day… got the Engine mounts all Square and Solid.

but as you said:: I can’t wait to enjoy the instant GO,, and the peace of mind of not breaking Stock mounts every 2 years

Tranny felt easy after doing the motor mounts for myself. I may have use the jack on the trans to wiggle things around until things lined up.

 

All Cherry now up front: setting nice and flat, torqued and ready

tomorrow will be the Tranny mount, but I can tell already I’m gonna have some room to enjoy

Quick Q? Did you drop the support transmission frame or just wiggle in?
