I think an important thing to note is climate too. Here in CO the vast majority of people like the lite/mild ECT variety because it fits their needs in all seasons and driving conditions (winter, wheeling, not having to feather to much up passes or in canyons). Of course, some people want throttle maxed out because it’s how they like to drive, but that is more or a rare scenario out here at least. While a graphic may be helpful to some, it is pretty dependent not only on driving style/needs but also where it will primarily be driven.

Absolutely, although I'd contend that's a great point that could also be made in an infographic.

I settled on Lite/Mild in large part because of those considerations - lots of steep winter driving (snowboarding) and occasional loose off-road trails.

Just an idea for a starting point for people to consider, indeed including environmental and terrain considerations.

I would like to personally settle for a Magnuson supercharger . Then it will be habanero / ghost pepper.

Thanks for the info...very helpful. Which level would you say is closest to ECT at the stock tune? Is that a comparison that can even be made?

I agree with this. I know they provide Dyno readings, but to the average guy like me, that's just a squiggly line and a bunch of data. I have no idea how to read it...not sure how you'd do it, but some description of feel, or some kind of analogies might be beneficial.

Definitely Lite/Mild. It's how the truck should have came from factory. They probably would have sold a lot more trucks.

So, are you saying that lite is closest to the stock ECT and mild is more aggressive?

It's been a long time since I had mine stock so I can't remember what stock ECT felt like but the Mild ECT is a perfect step up from Lite and it isn't harsh on the drive train at all. You'll love it if you are looking to stay closest to factory with the added driveability OTT gives you.

100% this. I was skeptical of the supposed improvement, but I'm a believer now.

Lite feels just like stock throttle response (in a good way, in my opinion), but without all the negative shortcomings of stock - OTT did a really great job of fixing the Tacoma transmission issues. Acceleration is smoother. Shifting is smoother. Shift points and RPM make more sense and the truck doesn't randomly over-rev.

Mild felt like a slight step up from stock throttle sensitivity for a little more "pep" I guess, but wasn't too much throttle too soon or jumpy to me like Medium felt.

Personally, I still favored the Lite for daily driving but a lot of people like the Mild too.

You'll probably have to do some comparing regardless just to see what you like.

I ended up with Lite/mild for now. Just had it done at noon, and haven't had much time to drive it, other than the test drive and the 45 minutes on the interstate on the way home.

My first response is that this is how the truck should have felt coming off the lot. I like it a LOT better. Running mild on the ECT...it feels like it would probably be too jumpy for me off the line...I have a couple intersections that I drive daily multiple times and break free when it's wet with the way the truck was before. If I was on mild for the daily driver, it would be a bit of a test.

I had my truck tuned today. I agree lite feels about perfect for city driving, mild would be just a hair jumpy from a stop, though I believe one would get used to it relatively quickly.

I was reluctant, but so far the truck ran nice and smooth, and now it shifts like it should. It's a very noticeable Improvement.

Awesome! Howdy Kevin! Yeah I see your name up there in the fine print now.

I think maybe you were out test driveing your truck when Ragen handed them out.

HUGE Thanks to the OTT Crew @JustDSM and @Boltripper. Got this 2013 Turbo Xrunner Dialed in and running even BETTER after some routine turbo maintenance.

Don’t forget that they’re not just limited to doing 3rd gen Tacomas but can also tune custom turbo setups like this one!

Will this also apply to the 3GT magnuson tune?

I'm curious to see how good is the OTT tune is. One issue I'm concern about is when you are slowed down to make a turn and when you step on the accelerator it tends to have a slight lag when you press the gas, does it have that issue? It's not really a smooth transition or maybe a dead zone I guess you can say.

Another issue is when you're going up on a inclined for a longer period of time does it feel like it doesn't have enough power to keep going right around 65-75 mph and it'll shift down and up to maintain speed? These are the two issues I have with my current tune. Other than that I everything works just fine as how it is. If the OTT doesn't have any of these issues for an automatic I would love to switch over.

Any inputs are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've only had my truck tuned since this past weekend, however I do have a little bit of input.

The dead/numb pedal is no longer a thing. There is still a tiny bit of take up "in lite mode" however once you get past that point input is immediate. A very big improvement over stock, and again this is in lite setting. Throttle take up is something I've experienced with many vehicles that have throttle by wire, so in my opinion it's not something unique to the Tacoma. When I push the ETC button it goes from lite to medium mode, throttle input is immediate with no take up.

You can choose which settings you prefer. For regular around town 50% like the lite/mild setting 50% prefer mild/medium. I went with lite/mild and is what I recommend for city driving.

The shift logic in general is vastly improved, I would say 98% perfect. From what I can tell the transmission now shifts how it always should have, it behaves normal now. When going up a hill it will hold a gear a little longer "in a good way" with light throttle input it will now downshift exactly when you wanted to. Before the tune you would have to mash the pedal or it would downshift and up shift aimlessly, sometimes going down more geers than needed. This has been eliminated as far as I can tell.

With the ECT button pressed "mild mode" shifting is more aggressive, it will hang in a lower gear longer. This gives the truck a sporty feeling. I feel in city traffic it may be a little too much, however I could totally get used to it prettyeasily. I also feel you would probably lose a little bit of MPG in mild mode.

I live in Cincinnati and the part of town I live in is nothing but hills in every direction. Not only does the tune helped with the shift logic of the transmission, it also ramps up fuel mapping, cam lift and duration and ignition timing. This makes the engine feel much more responsive, like it gained 40 horsepower.

Now of course it did not gain that much horsepower, it's simply changing the parameters for a better power curve, at a more usable RPM.

The advanced throttle input means you're not alway mashing the throttle, that dragging a parachute feeling seems to be gone now, you have that coasting feeling when applicable.

At this point I can only give my current opinion, things can always change if problems arise. From what I know and from the people I've spoken to, that seems basically nonexistent.

It absolutely solves both of those issues. The lag turning a corner is completely gone and I've tested that several times. I drove back on the interstate from northern Kentucky to Cincinnati, which has some pretty steep grades, after having my truck tuned, and no gear hunting.

If you can afford it, just do it.
