Truck driver b.s.

If you're new to trucking do not become an o/o or lease operator strictly an employee. There is so much to learn and so much to go wrong. As an o/o you will work 7 days a week. Buy an older truck and have the engine go,in frame here will cost $35000 CAD. A good company will have newer trucks but they usually want experienced drivers,some will train guys. When you look for a job look at the equipment in the yard,if it's junk you probably don't want to work there. I've been an o/o and an employee,I'll pick employee every day.

Sorry to disappoint you all but it was sunny and 65 here and I even rode the bike over to a buddy’s shop and worked on his truck

Besides all of that, YOU are responsible for all of the permits, hazmat licenses, and any other regulatory shit state by state. God forbid you get caught during a roadside inspection (or worse still, after an accident) with something not in order!

And, it seems to me that many O/O drivers stay out a month or more at a time, chasing that buck.

OTR as an employee got old. I would lie in the bunk at night wondering WTF I was paying a mortgage. At least, when I got a local LTL job, I was home nightly...still worked 65-70 hrs per week. Eventually, I got a job that took me to retirement that was only 45 hr/week and still paid $70k with good benefits. Could've made more as a linehaul driver, but...

 

Well here we go, Monday morning having coffee.
