4 Tires & rims or 5 tires & rims

I hear the only benefits if you go up to a 17inch tire is something about bigger brakes? Is that all?

 

I always buy 5 wheels and 4 tires. Put one wheel into storage so when you prang a wheel one day you’ll have a replacement and not be stuck with 3 wheels when you realize they stopped making them.

 

5 & 5 summer & Winter.. & it’s on PRO wheel…

 

im lost cause your rims are NOT impact .....

No, there's remarkably more tire offerings in a 17" size, I assume because of their commonality across many vehicles. For example, you may only find SL/P rated or E load tires in a specific 16" tire size; that equivalent 17" tire may be offered in SL/P/C/D/E. That may not be important to you, but for some, going up in tire size and having the ability to retain certain load ratings without being forced into an E load is nice. For me, availability is important; I know that I could get a 265 or 285/70/17 in any given shop I visit if needed same day in an emergency, and wouldn't have to order one or go across town searching all day.

 

I do 5. I like doing a 5 wheel rotation. Get more milage out of your tires. And I like having a spare that matches the rest.

 

I used to always do 5 matching wheels and tires back in the day and found rotating them and how long they lasted didn’t add up for me.

With the Tacomas/4Runners I had I would actually buy (4) 265/75-16 tires for the truck and one 235/85-16 for the spare. Tucked up nice underneath and close enough diameter if I ever needed it to limp to a tire repair shop.

 

So question you have 5 tires & 5 aftermarket rims on your truck right now? How dirty does that 5th wheel get? Will it get ruion or stained

 

you would have to change the TPMS sensor every time

 

^^^this, the last thing i will do is change a tire.....try a plug, air it, limp it home or tire shop.....maybe just maybe use fix a flat

 

what if your new set up is 0 offset and your spare is the what ever it is (probably +25) if its the same as OEM on the TRD?

 

Wanted to add on to this question - does wheel width matter at all?

i.e.
(4) 16x8 aftermarket wheels
(1) 16x7 spare wheel

Whats the plug kit about? What exactly are they?

 

Tire plug kit. Chunk of rubber.
Can leave tire on truck. Yank out the nail/screw/whatever. Ream hole, plug hole. Add air if you can. Drive as if it never happened.

 

I have the same rim and tire on my spare that I have on the other 4.

I bought my wheels used and he had 5 of them. So I have a matching wheel and tire for my spare.

 

I do, haven't had any issues.

 

A kit to plug a hole on a tire that can done while on the truck
