I posted a while back about my 2023 Tacoma v6 having a very rough idle from day 1 . On Tuesday after a month long wait a field engineer will be out to the dealership to take a look and hopefully come up with something to help the situation, along with a vibration in the floor board on acceleration around 52-58mph. Truck has an overall “roughness” in it compared to my other 3rd gens. Figured I’d restart the thread to keep everyone posted.

Good luck! We waited a month for the “expert” to come to the dealership to see why the brakes failed on our new at the time 22 Prius only to wait another week to be told that they couldn’t duplicate the problem, “have a nice day here’s your car back”! I for one have little faith in Toyota’s experts.

Yeah I’m already 99% percent sure they’ll say it’s normal even though it’s clearly not. Every problem with the 3rd gen Tacoma was deemed normal it seems

I had very rough idle in drive while having my foot on the brake until I hit 3500 miles. It was enough to shake my phone off its magnetic holder. It went away along with my rear diff whine. Hopefully it stays that way. Interested to hear what they find.

So one day it just stopped idling rough and now it’s really smooth?

I just assume it had to break in. I did a drain of the oil at 2500, skipping the filter until 5k. There was a switch to winter gas around that time as well. I think switching to my winter set of wheels/tires may be why my diff whine is gone, but I’ll swap back to the stock set in a month.

Field tech looked at it. Said it’s normal for rough idling on these trucks. Figured that would be the outcome lol. Guess I’ll have to live with it or hopefully it goes away in time like some members here have stated

Same. At times I think my engine stalled haha. I have to turn off the music and listen to it.

Always used 91E0 or higher after dealers fill. I think that helps

More than once I’ve tried to start the truck when it’s already running. It’s not quite as quiet as my previous Subaru 4cyl boxer, but it’s pretty quiet.

I can’t comment on the OPs experience without being there, but I’m skeptical that people that haven’t owned old cars, particularly those with carburetors, understand how rough an idle can get. My 1981 Datsun pickup, towards the end of its life, would oscillate between a regular idle to almost dying with a regular 4 second period.

That said, a taco not purring is not normal, albeit a v6 is not the most naturally balanced engine configuration.

May want to look at engine mounts. U believe you had some questions about them. Try jack the engine a bit ti see if vibrations get better.

Mine as well…… I got out of it, walked about 5 feet and then realized it was still running.

We’re not talking about noise level, we’re talking about vibrations when idling. At least I think that’s what people think I’m talking about lol

Have you checked the spark plugs to make sure none are loose? Could have a bad coil causing the rough idle.
