These were my choices the other day when I changed at 129k miles. Went with the 10/40. It’s hot as shit down here. Runs like a champ. Truck has been bulletproof no matter what oil or viscosity I’ve run.

I just started doing my own oil and I went with Pennzoil ultra platinum. Fordboss on YT seems like a solid guy and he's done tons of oil comparisons and has sent many samples to Blackstone and shares results. Project farm YT also highlighted Pennzoil UP. There's other great brands of course.

Yep. What he said. Did you see the stuff I had available to choose from?

Hell in Peru I was given oil from a 55 gal barrel. Thought the old man was joking when he said that the barrel was delivered 12 years ago. Sure enough still had the delivery paperwork in the plastic pocket on the side. Was indeed 12 years old. Can’t be picky when there is nothing else to be found.

There’s hilux’s down here with 300k miles that have only had the oil changed with dino oil.

Only thing that matters is that it is changed regularly. Period.

I've always used Mobil 1 in my previous vehicles so I'll probably just stick with that whenever my first oil change comes around.

One can never have too many light bars.
    Pennzoil Platinum tastes the best.

Stupid is as stupid does! Or a fool and their money…

Do these clowns really believe that Toyota, GM or whoever ACTUALLY make that stuff themselves.

And for Christ’s sake, everyone, stop posting stupid YT videos of some dumbass squids doing oil changes (or anything really) that they themselves clearly learned on Youtube or tiktok. If you need a mf’ing video to change your oil, you’re still much better of trusting the tweakers at jiffy lube

Whatever is on sale. API SN or better. Synthetic no more than $3 a quart, semi-synthetic $2 a quart. That's my rule.
Take your pick. They all will do 5K OCI, Castrol Edge will do 10K OCI in stop and go traffic. I never go past 5K.

I usually use Toyota oil, it's got higher molybdenum than most. Went with day-glow green Molygen this time around, 'cause it was cheap on sale.

Very probably it will. But we have different driving conditions.

That's why I said in "stop and go" traffic. I work from home and when I go to the office, it is a couple of miles down the road.

A lot of my driving is under 5 miles. Lots of condensate in the oil. Synthetic or Dino, does not matter, water will not cook out in 5 miles. Water + combustion by-products = acid.
By my last count I had 156 quarts of 0w-20, 5w-20 and 5w-30 synthetic oil on hand. 3 cars in the family, using 16 quarts of oil combined for one oil change. That's almost 10 oil changes for EACH of the vehicles.

I paid, on average, $2.87 a quart, so an oil change, for the Taco is $21.22 (6qrts x $2.87+ $4 OEM filter). I can afford $21.22 every 5K miles.

PS I bought my truck in December of 2022, it has 10,338 miles on it as of now. 3 vehicles in the family and van is the family vehicle. Tacoma is a toy and farm truck.

Do you really keep all your jugs or do you work at a recycling center?

Recycling Center? Jugs in the pic are new, see Wall-Mart blue seals on a couple of them.. I am an oil hoarder :D.
Used oil goes back in the bottle it came from, and then to Autozone for recycling.

You can see purchase dates on some of them, others have dates on the sides (more visible on the shelf), so I know which to use first, usually the oldest.
Bottom right is Pennzoil Platinum Euro L Full Synthetic 5w-30, bought 1/31/24, $13.75 for a 5qt jug.

At one point we had 4 cars in the family, now down to 3, plus 2 lawn mowers and a brush cutter (those use 10w-30 and 5w-40, different oil inventory, not in the pic). I do 7-8 oil changes a year between all of the equipment we have. Oil companies do not do rebates as often as I would like, sometimes a year goes by without a good rebate. I get what I can, while I can on clearance sales and pricing mistakes.

For example I have on the shelf Castrol Edge Euro 5w-40 A3/B4, certified for BMW, Audi and Porsche turbo engines. I paid $25.98, including tax, for 3 jugs ($5.68 for a jug), Wall-Mart's algorithm pricing error. They will be great in my riding lawnmower and the brush cutter.

Honestly, get 0W-20 and look for about $5 a quart and you should be good. No need to overthink it. Intervals are more important as long as you're using 0W-20.
