To echo everybody else, I'd stick with OEM style. Just swapped my OEM for a carquest filter (made by WIX).

OEM or Denso is fine. It isn't restrictive - don't need to do testing to prove it, when the same filter is used with the Tundra 5.7L V8.

As stated by several, OEM is the best. K&N filter was worthless as far as fine dust getting though even when properly oiled and maintained
and provided little if any boost on 4 wheeler, a ranger, and previous cars. I like the Wix filters too.

Yup, useless in dirty/dusty conditions. Have used K&N for years and years. Have never found dust in my intakes, nor excess oil. If washed properly, they won't break down either. BTW, I raced offroad for almost 20 years. (Pic not me)

    Retired astronaut here.
I've used K&N filters from one side of the universe to the other, and they suck just as badly on lunar surfaces as they do in the Sonoran.

I do care. Don't use oiled cotton gauze filters, they suck.

This wasn't me either, but I somehow feel it lends credence.

If you read K&N's own literature they show some small HP gains at 5000 rpm. In other words if you're building a dirt track race car to drive at the local track it might give you another 1-2 mph and that might matter. At lower rpm's where most of us drive there were no gains.

I bought one years ago for a F150 that I had. Paper filters for that truck were $30+ at a time when most paper filters were less than $10. Instead of paying $30 each time I needed a filter I paid $50 for a K&N. Never expected any performance gains, it just seemed more economical to clean the filter rather than replace it.

I never had any problems, but I wouldn't do it again. The filter was still on that truck when I sold it.

Thanks everyone for feedback, i tend to lean that K&N is bit hiped maybe normal use in car fine but when u are in dust and desert i dont think it does good job, i already ran into issue where my throttle body and MAF was so bad that i got check engine lights come up.

one last question where you guys buy WIX filters, anyone have a good link and part number for 3rd gen?

    thanks all

My carquest one (made by WIX) is from Advanced Auto, PN:93085

You can buy the Wix filter (not rebranded) on rockauto, PN:WA10085

Totally dependent on your driving conditions (e.g. do a visual inspection more often) but 30k miles is a pretty good rule of thumb

I've seen several videos (For what that's worth) that show the K&N doesn't filter as well as the paper filters. If I were running through a lot of dirt and dust all the time, I'd use the paper filter.
I've had K&N's on several motorcycles in the past and was not really impressed by them. My personal opinion, K&N is over hyped.

Honestly I buy my Wix stuff from Amazon. I keep the engine air filters, cabin air filters, and oil filters on hand, because I am OCD that way.

Oiled filters will foul your MAF sensor, which needs to be clean and dry. And once they dry out, they become useless in terms of a filter element. Cold air intakes are likewise a complete waste of money.

HIGH QUALITY DRY PAPER FILTER, REGULARLY INSPECTED EVERY MONTH, FOR ME.

    Wix is a great brand.
