    Recently replaced the OEM radio and noticed this unused plug lower down in the console. Shown picture is it pulled through the ashtray. Any idea as to what this is for? 8 populated pins in a 9-pin connector, with best guess as to colors below.
    12_34 = Blue | Blue/White | lock | White | Green/Yellow
    56789 = Grey | Red/Grey | none | Red/White | Green

    Too many pins on that example, again 5-pins wide, not the 7 that requires. Might not even be radio related but I just can't find it on any of electrical diagrams I've found.

    The replaced radio had the dual plug (10+6) config with the CD din option.

    I believe that's for the Auto Antenna Relay, it's not equipped on Tacoma's (or at least I've never seen one with it) but the connector for it is still there.

    The plug certainly matches, guess I'll have to break the tester out and see if the pinout does too. This is the part, I think?, although the plug appears offcenter. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335235621535

    I had the same thought about it being a secondary hookup as well at first glance. As far as the head unit, I think 98% of all Toyota units around this time are interchangeable, or even stackable assuming 2 single-dins. Ebay has (https://www.ebay.com/itm/276370609988) which even looks to have the same bracket as mine (iirc). So maybe any units until 2004ish?

    Mine was basically a 3-sided box with removable front/rear/top (Model: 86120-02130 w/A51202 face). 3rd party-wise Toyota+Nissan+Subaru mounting holes on systems seems to be a thing. The cheap Dual (Jensen-brand cousin) replacement had all 3 brands mounting holes although I had to use different screws because they were drilled too small. M5s will not fit a drilled M3, no matter how hard you turn.

    No crap!…..98%!!!!

    I know that 98% of Subarus can plug and play (got a 06 6disk on my 98 that came stock with single din)
    Now you just confirmed what I was ‘internet guessing’ from eBay pictures

    thanks so much!!!!

    I searched for hours about the same, here (OE radio swap models)…to no avail
    Glad I responded (incorrectly) to your thread!!!!!

    The Toyotas did have wiring for a factory amp but it's the 16-pin connector not that smaller one in the picture

    4Runners with the digital radios had a lot of them
