That LX470 and 80 series I posted earlier are still sitting at Market Auto (Kilgore’s place). I think they’re totally delusional with the prices on those. The 470 is worth maybe 6k on a good day, and they’d be lucky to get half what they’re asking for on the 80 series given its mediocre respray. Some people think a MAACO paint job equates to a restoration.

Not sure what kind of pricing you're referring to, specifically on the 80 series, but for many a MAACO job will last a long time and look really good as long as the prep work was done correctly.

Then again, your comment about said vehicles not actually being sold (but listed at a ridiculous price) kind of reinforces what many of us have said about vehicle sales in general whenever you throw these off the wall numbers out there.

Take the $6k you were offered, and run.

Don't try to oversell it, much less undersell it by saying shit like "well yeah it needs this and that and you should really only go OEM"

I can assume you maybe mentioned a steering rack leak which is fine to do so, but the interested party should already know it's a high-mileage vehicle with many things needing to be addressed....just like you should've been when you acquired it.

I don't ask anything specific when buying old vehicles, what I can glean from observations and test drive is good enough. I don't want to know what others think is wrong or broken, it just makes it harder for me to actually figure it out. It's an old vehicle, I'm sure it needs things and if I can't identify or I miss one then that's on me, big whoop.

    Emphasis here friend.

This needs to be accepted and/or learned.

I know when I called you about my 80 series I had two specific questions - 1 power steering leak up top, and you mentioned that being completely normal for those stupid caps/etc and 2 something about something....I forget

But that's when you told me about confirming the front end was rebuilt correctly and not getting 'hot' to the touch after a test drive

Everything else just business as usual

That knock sensor crumbling in my hand (and already having bought a replacement) was sheer fucking luck though

My knock sensor harness crumbled when I did the PHH, ended up getting pissed and taking the top of the intake apart to fix it all and the coolant lines lol

I just meant I don't want Nick to find a way to talk his buyer out of buying his truck from him, or offering even less than agreed on only because he talked too much

Yeah I never did do the bypass

I even bought the freaking replacement lines but since it wasn't leaking *yet* I lived with it

Of all things I tackled the shit out of that steering system and replaced every damn thing just short of the box itself; most steering work I've done before that was just a steering rack on my old Trans Am

Using a steering wheel to leverage yourself in and out of a vehicle is only going to fuck up everything inside the rack; I learned that one day after months of ownership (I never leaned on it myself) when making a sharp right turn one day and the car shutting off

Took some diagnosing and paper clipping to pull codes and other shit until I was messing with the column physically and it shut off when I had it running

Those coolant and power steering hoses are a clusterfuck on the 80s. I think it might be cause it was designed for a RHD setup.

    Many delete the PHH.

Outside of that, only "coolant" line issue I had was the bypass line cause of the damn nipple that broke off the top of the radiator; very common thing apparently.

    20221231_160011.jpg

You know what though? When you yank that radiator and fan clutch out, there's so much fucking room inside that engine bay!

    20221231_154654.jpg

Did you have any issues you had to address on your 80? Specifically on the steering side of things?

The power steering leaked of course, but it’s very rare to see any 90s Yota that doesn’t. I think it would’ve kept going for quite some time just with fluid top ups, but it was started to burn/leak more oil than what I was comfortable with. It’s always a question with those whether to rebuild the top end to replace the valve stem seals, which are probably dry and sucking oil at this point.
