How smooth are you talking? Like can barely feel it idle in gear?

Yes sir lol. I rarely ever rev it out. Guess I outta do it. Will be traveling to South Carolina from Pennsylvania in July. Take the truck on a nice long ride. I’m confident it will smooth out eventually

    Man give her the beans!

Im a believer in “Italian tuning”. I do it once a week or so. Done it on my previous truck too and engine ran flawless at 165k miles.

I also make a habit of taking a truck on a nice 30-40 min drive on the highway to charge the battery real good.

It’s not as simple as 4cl vs 6cyl. For example, an I6 is generally better balanced than a v6 and a cross plane v8 is generally better balanced than a flat plane v8. There are a number of YouTube videos on the subject of engine balance on “engineering explained” and “driving for answers” that are interesting.

I’m gonna give it some hard throttle soon. It’s so new I’m just gonna ride it out over the years and miles. If the roughness of the idle in gear never smooths out then oh well lot worse issues to have. My trucks runs great other than that. If anything pops up I still have 56k miles of warranty

I usually try to drive conservatively but there are instances when i'll get on it, usually when some one moves in front of me and then goes slower than me causing me to turn off my CC. I have no issue with getting on the gas and sometimes popping the shifter over into S-mode, which drops it in 4th and jumps the RPMs up to get around and ahead of someone, i believe exercising that engine is good.

After the initial break-in period recommended in the owners manual, I never hesitate to call up any and all ponies whenever needed. Redline or not. 3k plus it starts to really move IMO. However, most of my 30 minute hilly, daily commute I’m in S-4.

@Gfenza89 giver the beans. If there is an issue, you’ll know about it sooner than later. Use that warranty if needed. Also, just for the hell of it, run the tank empty. Add high octane fuel, then give’er. See if you notice a difference at idle after that.

Yes, as in just as smooth as it is without foot on brake and just in drive. Take your foot off the break and if it gets smoother then it’s just the driveline components need to wear in IMHO. You should always get vehicles into higher RPM every now and then.

There's a real lack of power till it hits VVTi at ~3500rpm. Almost as dramatic as VTEC in hondas.

Once or twice a month I'll do a long pull to redline when merging onto the highway. I've always done this with all my cars. It's good to get the combustion chamber nice and hot once in a while.

Unfortunately, it doesn't do anything to help the rough idle.

I mean, its a 3 sentence response on a forum, not my PhD dissertation. Of course it gets more involved than that, but generally speaking its a true statement.

My girlfriend doesn’t notice it either. Her Corolla cross has a rough idle too sometimes. Mine just seems rougher then all my other tacos
