Any woodworkers?

I've recently seen attachments for a hand held drill and thought those might have been useful. Just curious really.

 

I have not seen such a thing.

 

I believe you might be talking about a drill press mortising bit attachment....

 

I have one of those and I'd never use it for such a large and thick chunk of wood.

 

That looks like it could get a little sporty in larger/ hardwood applications

 

Yeah I'll stick with my method, lol.

 

Well there is a stabilizer bracket that goes with it.. but to each their own. Sorry for throwing out ideas

 

Always throw out your ideas, nothing wrong with that. There is always more than one way to do something and my way is not always the right way, it's just a way.

 

I dont think you would get the accuracy needed to make it look good as his stuff. I know i sure wouldnt

 

While I know they work, I’ve never had experience with those types of bits and cannot wrap my brain around how they work

 

Drill bit removes the bulk of material, the chisel that surrounds the bit bit removes the remaining material from downward pressure

 

That’s what I figured but I also overthought it to the point of convincing myself that was too simple of an explanation

 

My only concern would be trying to push that mortise chisel in by hand in this hard ash. But I can beat on things with a hammer, lol. Now in a drill press or a mortising machine they work awesome. Unfortunately for me these are to thick to fit in my powermatic morticer.
And these legs are about 80 lbs each.

 

I've used my drill press based morticing chisel on oak. It takes a LOT of pressure to go through it, and anything more than 3/4". I won't even bother, it's just easier to drill and chisel it out.

 

Just finished a cabinet for myself, got tired of the old outdated drawers that were built into my very tiny closet space so I figured some 24 in deep big drawers should help. Now the wife wants one in her tiny closet

The Grizzly joiner came in today and I finally returned to the world of man glitter production! Two 5 gallon buckets full!

So far, I like it. Practiced on a 2x4 with some paint on it. It's nice and clean and square to boot! Also had a very rough cut piece of oak plank and I think oak from an old cement pallet.

Dust collection did well until I got up to the 1/16 cut. Then it starts tossing bits off the cutting head. I also discovered it works even better when the vacuum is actually on. . It may also be that I need a better dust collection system.

I was able to clean up some spalted maple and a piece of live edge oak for my desk build. The maple had a nasty freeway sized left turn in it. That's gone on one side. I managed to cut the oak pretty well with the circular saw so that only took a few passes.

Last on the list was some reclaimed walnut from cabinets I think. Flattened two sides on four pieces for a mirror for the walk in closet.
