Those are nice too. I’ve always wanted a 40, love that series. Maybe I’ll get one someday if I get the itch to have a short wheelbase trail rig haha.

The only LC I've owned was an 80, so they definitely have a special place in my heart. I just think the 60/62 are the bees knees though, haha. I'm sure they aren't the best LC to own, but...

I would also love to have a 40, but I have to choose my battles (plus I'm not rich).

Well this kind of sucks. Got the truck all prettied up for the racetrack and now it's moved back a month. We'll be in Tennessee.

This is probably dead but I've been reading through checking y'alls reviews/notes on local installers since I am having an issue with my gears (something sheared/broke in the 3rd member I'm pretty sure). Cannot speak highly enough about ECGS - they are the best. Had my 5.29s installed by them in NC and would do again every time. bonus, break-in is about done once you make it back home here.

RE: the issue I'm having - jumped on the gas to get into traffic and at the peak of the rev range/torque band head a thud and the clunking started. Consistent clunk forward and backward, worse going forward under throttle but still there coasting. Drive shaft/U-joints/wheel bearings are all good. Need to get inside the diff to see if anything broke. Fluid looked to have a normal amount of very fine metallic in it - nothing chunky or obvious - but from the sound/feeling I'm getting I think it's a tooth on the pinion or spider gear.
Local choices from reviews and direct interaction so far are OCD in Stafford and Valley Gearing west of Winchester. Both will work with ECGS directly on warranty stuff. Any personal recommendations from you all? Saw the nod for Valley a few 10s of pages back, but nothing I saw yet from this crew on OCD. I need to tow the truck to where ever it gets some help, and really didn't want to tow it all the way to NC this time... Wouldn't mind some thoughts if they're out there.

    Cheers

Shoot @DOUBLLD a message. I think he's in England right now, not sure on his return time.

In the meantime, you could put the rear axle on stands, and have someone turn the wheel, and put your ear on the rear diff. In my inexperienced opinion (i leave the diff stuff up to the professionals) id guess it maybe was a tooth or part of a tooth that chipped.

wheel bearings wouldn't break like that all of a sudden. And if you said you checked the ujoints, then they probably are good. Ujoints fail in high HP - and we know our trucks dont have that! :rofl:I could help you check if you want. I picked up a new floor jack recently, and it hasnt been used yet. (Plus a mini GFC meetup)

Might take you up on that bud, thanks! It's all over the place at the moment... Broke down in Bowie avoiding 95 traffic to Baltimore for a work meeting, limped to the Sunoco with a garage that was luckily right there - guy was nice and threw it on the lift for me. We spun everything around, heard nothing, drove it again and CLUNK CLUNK... Seems it's gotta be under load, so it may be a minor bend on a tooth that with no weight on it doesn't ping? Strange to me, but a "professional" could probably diagnose quickly. Strategy is to get it in the air, pull the drive shaft, axels, and open the pumpkin. Should show itself pretty quickly there, but since the gears are still warrantied by ECGS I need a pro to check it.
Had it towed to my folks place in DC since it was half the distance to Vienna from where I was, and there it sits waiting for the next move. Currently have an appt. 4/5 with OCD but if someone yells saying don't do it for some reason I'll listen. Open to anyone good, experienced and honest (plus someone that can go through ECGS for warranty parts if needed).

If Winchester is in range, check Off Road Innovations (ORI). A couple of guys have had good experiences and I have found them knowledgeable and helpful when I went looking for estimates.

There is a Barbie jeep running around NoVA. I think it needs to roll off a trail.
