Not bike related but while you’re there check out daily creative food co, it’s a super good breakfast place with all kinds of food. I went on a Sunday though and it started getting busy by like 10ish.

I haven't been down that way. But check out BKXC vids on YouTube going back a few years. He rode some stuff down there that looked pretty fun.

Not exactly Taco related but maybe interesting for those that have a 1Up. I have one of the old original 1Up in 1.25" with a 2" adapter to work on the LX's 2" hitch. I wasn't happy with the wobble, the adapter (another failure point) and the way the rack sits uncentered and not level. Luckily, 1Up's modular design allows you to upgrade to a 2" (if you buy the side plates as well). I got it in black because eventually, I may get the rest of the rack powder coated black or just rattle can it. Now mostly level and absolutely no wobble. Some before and after pics.

Does adding those pieces give you the locking hitch pin too? My older 1up has the ball tightening method and it does give me some worry it will just jettison itself and my bike into oblivion one day

I've switched from the 1.25" to 2" receiver as well on my 1up rack.
Yes you get the slot for a hitch pin.

The side plates are a different size so you need to buy the full assembly.
Here is what you would need to buy.
    https://1up-usa.com/product/2-hitch-bar-slotted-with-side-plates

    Edit:
Do you have a 1.25" rack currently or do you have an older model?
If you have an older model you might want to message 1up to see if new parts would fit. 1up is very good about responding to emails.

    MUCH better.
    Why'd you lower the rack?

The LC's OEM hitch is at the bumper so when I open the lower tailgate, it hits the first tray. So I found an extender that also lowers the hitch location and now the lower tailgate clears even with a bike in the back. However, the upper tailgate (glass) still hits the handlebars which is nbd.

Yes, it came with a locking hitch pin but depends on your hitch receiver thickness, you may need to get some spacers from Home Depot to make it snug. The hitch pin is not that thick though (it can't be because of the locking ball mechanism for the rack). I think it's primarily to keep the rack on the hitch if the ball fails.

Thanks guys, I'll be honest. I'm kind of nervous about taking nice bikes to Miami. I'm used to my ways here in Alabama where bikes don't get stolen at traffic lights even when not tied down on a tailgate pad.
I've debated buying a cheaper hardtail for the trip, but I think I'm just going to have to keep a lock on them for piece of mind throughout the day.

I'll check out the restaurants for sure, and the BKXC vid.

Bike insurance might be a good option too. My renters insurance covered my bike when it was stolen from my old apartment. I'm not sure how that would work since you're on a trip and not at your house though

Or rent a bike. Way cheaper than buying another bike.

    Great call!

Was pricing the deciding factor over the Epic Evo?

The pricing/availability helped, but once I went down the rabbit hole the Spur started to be more appealing.

Contents insurance works the same whether at home or on a road trip (ask me how I know). It would be covered as long as your policy has no exclusions for bikes.

I'd say relying on insurance is the worst option though. If you make a claim for something small like a bike that's one strike against you. If you need to make a second claim within 5 yrs many insurance companies will drop you. With a third claim in 5 yrs it's almost impossible to get coverage. That's very bad if you have a mortgage or might buy a place in the future. Insurance is for big losses, not bikes. Focus on prevention.

should.... should i get a spur too? i keep going back and forth between the transam and spur.

i would ride a transam as a commuter, hit trails on my way home, go for longer rides.

the spur feels like a i could do the same but its a faster/more comfortable on longer rides? its been a long time since i've been on a hard tail for more than an hour....

Any recommendations for budget 700c wheelset? Looking for an extra set that I could put road tires on. Anyone looking to unload?

    not enough.
    budget 700c road? not gravel?

I have bontrager wheels on my gravel bike. they're okay. really difficult to actually hold tubeless air even though they are tubeless. but tubed, they're fine for commuting.
i hear good things about hunt wheels.
dt swiss is also a great solid option that you can't go wrong with.
