Leaf Springs vs Coil springs - Is it worth moving beyond the SR?

I built 2 SR's on Toyota.com and the only difference was tranny, and cab config of course. I got the tow results I expected. Tow package only added a hitch I guess and had no effect on towing cap? So need some clarification there I guess for my mind.

You are right about one thing, I don't see a "tow package" as an option for the SR. When I bought my 2016 SR I bought an aftermarket hitch and wiring harness. Is that what they expect SR owners to keep doing for 2024? Above, you said "Tow package only added a hitch I guess" did you add that on Toyota.com ?

 

On the DC there is one, but not on the XC. ???

Let me make sure I understand. In the SR trim, XtraCab lets you buy the tow package. Double cab, that's not an available. But even if you add the hitch to the XtraCab the towing capacity remains at 3500.

Then, do all double cab SRs come with a receiver hitch?

I found a few videos of the SR Manual double cab, which show a hitch installed.

If this is true, then why does the builder and specs sheet say the MT version of SR can tow 6400 lbs, but the user manual says 3500 lbs (and even some dealer websites?) I can only speculate but the inconsistencies are driving me insane.

 

If you got to the website and at the bottom of the build summary, you can download the details of the truck you built. It will show the specs there. If they are right or not...

 

Ah, yes after "building" a MT SR it does say under Safety/Convenience Class-IV towing hitch receiver and wiring harness with 7-pin/4-pin S connector". So now the question of actual towing capacity lingers, but we have 3 different sources saying 6400 lbs, and only dealers and maybe the cryptic tables in user manual saying 3500 lbs. Wonder if that little umph in horsepower and torque is really all it takes to double towing capacity? I doubt it.

 

I've been staring and clicking on the builder too much, I need a break. I would disregard dealer websites as they are just scraping info from other places. They know less than we think we do.

Even on the new Tundra SR trim, tow package is an option. Not all Tundra SR have the hitch receiver.

I’m willing to bet the tow cap is 3500… Have you seen those puny leaf springs on the SR?? Pretty sure they’re the same spring pack on the xtra cab and double cab.

 

I thought the Tow Hitch is part of the Frame for 2024?

 

My .02 is the SR manual 4x4 is the only trim almost worth the price tag, so yes get that one. With every vehicle, the newness wears off after a few months and what you are left with is the feeling of whether or not you made a decent financial decision. I also tend to think about what other stuff the money could buy instead… in your case, a whole freaking motorcycle, or a baller-ass leather sectional, etc. deff would pick those over slightly-improved suspension components and a sliding rear window in my car lol. Unfortunately, most people gotta be seen in the “best of the best” for some reason and just think about the monthly payment “only being XYZ more” instead of the big picture.

 

I just got confirmation from a dealer who has one of these on the ground, as per the driver door placard, that the SR 4x4 5’ bed manual is model code TZNA45L-PRFSZR

that puts it at 6400lbs towing capacity.

don’t you all go buying that trim at once, I may want a chance.

 

That truck and a Limited are the 2 best values on the 4th gen IMO. I'd be all over the SR MT if I was in the market right now and not in research phase.

You better snatch it up quick before someone with less impulse control than me does.

 

They will likely only offer the SR manual 4x4 for another year or two. In 3rd gen base model lost the manual after year 2 I believe. Bronco also did away with its nice base trim after year 3, Honda did away with most of their base models after year 2 this past gen. After the initial launch, usually the manufacturers get rid of anything nice in the base form to push bigger margins.
